Default ecu question...p28

i'm planning to get a p28 ecu. i was wondering does it matter if it was originally equip in an auto. or manual? thanks.

yes. i think you have to change it from auto to manual. if you get it chipped you can request them to change it.

An auto P28 can be converted to manual semi easily. If you do the conversion it doesn't matter, if you do not you will throw an auto trans code.

i remember there is a way to tell from auto or manual by looking at the serial number on the ecu, but forgot. how do i do it again?

second number of the second set of 3 digits on the side. ie P28-AX.
0=manual
5=auto

save yourself the effort....just get a manual ecu. they're not that hard to find.

obviously you've never converted one before, the last one I did took me longer to remove and reinstall the cover, than it did to actually do the conversion.
