Default Reverse lights not on

I recently replaced the bulbs in my taillight because the reverse lights didn't come on. They still don't. I think it has somtehing to do with the gauge cluster being automatic because the guy I brought the car from did a transmission conversion but didn't change the clusters to manual. Is this right?

partially. When you do a conversion, there will have to do some wiring with the tranny to switch reverse lights on. with some searching you'll find out how to fix it. I got the same problem but never bothered me enought to fix it.

except for the cluster part you are wrong. the tranny has a sensor on it up on top that switches a relay to turn your reverse lights on when you shift into reverse.

or you can do it the ghetto way like my friend did. he hooked a + wire to a constant 12 v source, then thru a switch, then to the backup lights, then ground as usual on the - side of the bulbs. but make sure the switch is the kind that lights up once its on, you dont want the backup lights on when your driving

you can do that but so ghetto. plus your bound to forget and drive off with it one and will get you pulled over. just leave it or do it the right way.
