Default Rims + Lowering = ?

Hi. First of all a big thanks to those who helped me on my last topic. Unfortunately it's gone stale over the past few days so I thought I'd post my new question here. I'm wondering what size rims you guys are running on your del sols and what kind of drop your able to do accordingly. My 93 Si came with 17" rims and when shopping for suspension I was thinking of going with the Eibach pro kit which gives it just a little over an inch drop. I'm wondering if anyone has a similar setup so I could see what it looks like. I don't want to go too low and deal with rubbing but I also don't want to little and have it still looking like a monster truck, haha. Thanks in advance everybody.

17s are about as big as youd want to go on a del sol. bit too big in my opinion, but thats about the max. your gonna need some thin as expletive tires. How wide are the 17s? 17x7"? 17x8"? cause rubbing would be an issue if you got some wide *** 17s with big tires and dropped when turning hard at higher speeds. with 17s, almost any tire is gonna throw off your speedo unless you get like a 30 profile, which grip great, but are very uncomfortable.

P.S. Dont let the ricers (the JDM people) tell you to get small rims cause there track racers. If you are a track racer, might look into something a little smaller though.

why not go smaller, thats the best thing you can do, tires are cheaper, they weigh less, gearing is shorter, you can get higher profile tires, and imho they look so much better, i havent seen a good looking civic with 17's, ever, 16's are max in my book, but then agian, thats imo, good luck, i run 15's with a 2 inch drop, and you might want to look into a camber kit if you end up dropping more than an inch, good luck

15's are about the perfect size for your car..17's are to big IMO..16's are max..but the bigger rim you go the lower profile tire you have to get = Ma$$ money...so stay with 15's or 16's..

16's and ~2" drop on my sol. IMO, 17's start too look a little roller skateish.

The car came with the 17"s already on it and he had pitched the factory wheels and tires. So I'm kinda financially stuck with them for now. The tires are about thin as hell on em' though. I think they look pretty cool but that's just me. The care definitely needs dropped though. The center of gravity feels thrown off riding so high. So does it seem safe to do an Eibach sport kit drop on it? Roughly a little over an inch should be safe I assume. Thanks again for all the input.

That would be all and good if I had a set of stock rims. I don't have anything to put on the car if I sold the rims. Anyone know where I could find some stock honda rims to fit for cheap. I'm just checking out all my options here.

BTW, I'm looking on cardomain and I'm finding quite a few del sols lowered on 17s. I know it's not the new JDM look everyone is going for but I think it looks cool. I don't want anyone thinking I'm looking to put euro tails/aluminum wing/ neons/ and whatever else you can find at auto zone on my car. I want to keep it clean but I happen to like these rims. My main concern is just how low can I safely go on these rims. I'm only gonna purchase springs once hopefully and I just wanted to see if an all around 1.2" drop should be safe or not low enough. Thanks again.

P.S. I'm shopping for Short Ram Intakes on ebay and was wondering if the engines in the del sol si and 93 honda civics were compatible. I was under the impression that they both contained the 1.6 SOHC VTEC. Just wasn't sure if the engine layout was similar enough for the same intake tubing to work. Thanks

To Haveaniceday: Sorry, I'm a little emberassed to say I'm not even sure. I have yet to even really look. Why you asking?

To IHateJDM:Thanks, there are definitely a lot more parts available for civics than del sols. What about suspension for the two cars. Any chance it's interchangeable?

15" or 17" will not matter provided the 17 is 205/40/17 as both are the same size.

205/50/15 is 23.1" where as 205/40/17 is 23.5" overall diameter.

However, go with a tastefull drop of 1.5-1.8" and you'll get nice looks combined with good performance and not have to worry about bottoming out over everything around

I had 205/40/17 and now i'm going with 205/50/15 as its lighter and shorter gearing as stated above...its really a personal preference for both rim size and lowering, but anything over 2" is gonna be a pain in the ***

they are all the same, just dont buy one for a d16y7 and you will be good, i got a cold air intake off ebay for 15 bucks shipped, i cut it to how i wanted and made a short ram with a k&n i 5 finger discounted, i used the extra piping to ghetto rig an intake for his car, you might have to drill a whole for the o2 sensor, but thats not a bigge, go ebay intakes , but if you have some money to blow i suggest getting an aem INTEGRA TYPE R intake, it will fit trust me

I say screw 17's. I had 17's on my Ej8 and they were way too big, lost too much power, blew up too many tires from pot holes due to low profile tire. I've went to 16s with a 205/45/16 tire and I'm set! 17's are way too big on a del sol and well gettin kinda old seeing everyone with 17's. Lightweight is the key here. you can have all the power in the world but if you got f*in wheels that weigh eleventy billion pounds it kinda defeats the purpose, don't ya think? Go with something clean and I ride on Skunk2 springs and it's bouncey as expletive, I'm looking into Tien or Eibach. Good luck with that man.

i think you mean IAT sensor, your o2 is in your exhaust, not intake.

Hey thanks for all the info guys. I'm probably gonna stick with the 17s for the time being(lack of cash), but maybe down the road look into something a little smaller. Base on what you've said, the eibach's should be safe. I'm prolly gonna get a cheap *** intake off ebay(tubing is tubing, right?) but my brother ordered an intake of X3racing.com and it came with this bitching Mugen filter. Anyone ever seen these or know where I could get one? Thanks again
