Default Weird Noise From Steering Column Area

Today when I got to school and was parking up, i turned the steering wheel and started to hear this squeaking noise. I played with the wheel by turning it left and right and it kept making the noise. After I started driving home later in the afternoon, the noise was still there. There is no apparent noise outside of the car. It seems to be coming from the steering column area inside the cabin.

Any Ideas?

ThanX.

There has been a revelation. The noise is actually originating from outside the car, not in the cabin like i thought. It is coming from the driver side wheel well. It is really loud. Everytime i turn the wheel it's like something is whining. I know my CV boot was torn for some time now, and I got a car wash yesterday with underspraying. Could that have dried out the CV joint?

I am assuming the undercoating is some sort of liquid wax or something like that to help protect the underside. I would guess you have a bad bushing or seal on a pivot point, and the undercoating has gotten in there and caused the squeak. I dont think the the CV joint will squeak just because of the spray. The CV boot has been replaced correct??
