Default map sensor probs

the voltage between the red wire and a chasis ground is 5v but between the red and white wire on the harness it was reading .002 so i would seem that the ground between the plug and ECU is open but there is conduity between the ecu and the plug....

the real question is can i just ground the map sensor to a chasis ground or does it have to be grounded to the ecu for the ecu to read it properly... anybody have there maps wired like that?
