transmission cooler?
I know Accord transmissions are weak, automatic that is. There is such thing as transmission coolers right? They cool the tranny so they can last longer. I believe I read about this in another forum. It talked about how to take care of your transimission. They said just buy a transmission cooler and don't drive hard and it will last longer? Anyone want to chime in?
They say, add a cooler if you plan on doing any towing or adding power to the engine (running it hard). Of course you could do that, and it craps out on you anyway. I say unless you will be towing, or adding power, you should change the fluid more often, say every 15k or 30k miles which is what I plan on doing (30k), instead of 60k, like my maintenance schedule says for severe conditions.
The only "weak" tranny is V6 accord transmissions. the 6gen and older cars I4 trannys hold up very well. I change my fluid once a year regardless of milage (I drive about 11K / year)
For best performance it should go in front of your a/c condensor but if you own a 5th gen this isn't the best place to put it since the A/C is weak in the 94/5 cars. Next best place is between a/C and rad.

Well you don't want to cool the tranny fluid too much because, like oil, it needs to be at a certain temperature in order to properly lubricate. People often think that they need to add a AT cooler but fact is, unless you're doing some major towing or very hard driving it simply isn't needed...save your money IMHO.
Yes get one before it is too late! also don't forget to change tranny fluid every 15,000 miles or once a year. that's why most automatics don't last that long. I got stuck in the mountains one time whith my 99 accord. that's the Only time my car has left me broken down on the side of the road..so far since i bough it. I let the maintenance go too long on the tranny. it heated up & slipped. the oil looked like melted chocolate.(it's suppossed to be red). the oil cooler will definetly help in extending the life of your transmission just dont forget fluid changes
