03-07 accords

Re: 03-07 accords auto tranny (Baron55)
the 03 and 04 had an overheating 2nd gear set that was quickly addressed.
i've never seen a L4 tranny go bad yet. 03-07 accord l4 were excellent.
we don't see many v6 trannys go bad. the v6 has much beefier internals, teh weak spot is fluid renewal. make sure the fluid is pinkish. renew it every 15k-30k.

I have an 03 V6 sedan automatic. Are any of the recall fixed trannies still going out? I have 50k miles, and I have changed out 3 quarts every 15k miles. Should I be worried about my transmission lasting? I plan to have this car a long time.

no, even the updated transmissions are holding up well. it was caught very early. just keep up with the transmission fluid and you should be fine.

So I am planning on purchasing an 03 EX-L with the I4 in it, so there were no known causes for this vehicle besides the tranny or is this only a problem in other models with the V6? The car I'm looking at has 39K on it and how do I know if the vehicle has had the problem fixed?

to tell you the truth...i haven't seen any major problems with the powertrain on the 03-07 4 cyl models! some minor failures are a leaking valve cover gasket(easy enough to see) and a check engine light for vtec(vtec oil switch failure) also easy fix(new solenoid, easy access if it does go bad).

Awsome thanx guys, yeah im trading in my 04 Honda EX civic for the car so I like the room of the accord along with the heated leather seats, and navigation system. and with the 4 cyl I should still average around 30mpg thru out the tank so I can deal with giving up about 5-6 mpg from driving my civic.

sure, no prob.
the 03 civic is a pain in the *** too. it rides like a tank...leaking shocks, compliance bushings, front mount...ick...

Yeah i have never had a problem with my 04 ex civic, but it only has 51K on her and is a 5sp. i think it is time to step up to something that is a bit more roomier and more comfortable for myself and others as well.

I'm working in an automotive shop that specializes in Honda and Imports.. I haven't seen any issues with the transmission on 03-07 Accords. I think it really depends on how well the customer treats its car. The Automatic Transmnission Fluid must be changed at the recommended intervals..or it will just die on you.. and I think that applies to every vehicle out there... CHANGE THE FLUID!!!

I see a ATF inline filter on my 05 V6 AT. Is this something that should be changed? I have 71,000 miles and am getting ready to change ATF. The filter sits below the airbox right behind the ATF dipstick

Two questions:
1) Is it a fist sized black unit that looks like a large inline fuel filter?
2) Have you owned the car since it was new?
The reason I ask is that Honda sometimes sent these black inline filters to be installed along with a replacement transmission.
Overall I have seen very few problems with the transmissions in these cars whether it be the 4 or six cylinder. As someone said above I heartily agree that 30k miles is the longest you should go between tranny services on any of the automatics.
