Transmission downshifts when extreemely cold at highway speeds
I have noticed evey day about 10 minutes in to driving highway speeds of 75MPH (using cruise), now that it is extreemly cold (0 degrees +/- 5 degrees) My engine revs due to the transmission downshifting. If I let it be it will shift back up after about 10 or 15 seconds, but usually I will cancel cruise to bring the RPM back down and all is fine from that point on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

is your car warmed up when it does this, thinking that maybe because its so damn cold where you are, it takes a bit longer to warm up your car, and if you get out on the road and dont let it warm up, this could be your problem, if you dont do this however tell me.
I let is warm a few minutes and it is about 5 or 10 minutes before I hit the highway, I was thinking warmup could be and issue, but have heard a lot of mechanics say 3 minutes is plenty of time
is your tstat working properly? Accords do not allow the TQ Converter to lock up when the car is cold. This aides in the car warming up. my car acted just like yours did. When I changed the broken t-stat, the problem dissapeared.
The ECU will think that the car is cold if the coolant temp drops too much.

Dont know, I think the stat is working fine, but will need to check it out, thanks for the info, maybe also I will take a little longer on warm up to see what happens, when it in the teens or twenties I dont have the problem, just the frigid temps. I dont work well in those temps either....now that I think about it.
mechanics say 3mins? eh, my accord takes about 5 on a regular day, but your talking about freezing temperatures, think itll be a tad longer than 3 minutes, if your Tstat is broken it could be a problem, but if its fine and its still pointing cold and not inbetween the blue and midpoint, then your car is running too cold.
Since I am in a somewhat heated garage, maybe that is the 3 minute warmup, I my temp gauge...not much of one, reads about the same area it does anyother time of the year, but it dont say temp, will need to check out the stat to see if it is "truely" working properly

see what im saying is that, most people with your problem also have the sputtering problem too, but your car as you say seems to be running fine as the RPM level increases, so that is all that i can think of for the moment, give it a try, about 15 mins before u leave let your car warm up for that time and see how it works out
Got it, I will give it a try. Thanks, and yes the engine runs fine at the high rpm which is about 4000, but dont like it to for long
