Default What HID kits are Legal at "X" output?

I'm looking at getting a HID kit for my 2 civics and my bike. I know the laws change all the time and wanted to know in the state of IL. are aftermarket HID kits legal and if so what output is the max limit? I have heard many different things and thought I'd ask. I also heard the higher the output is you will lose visability. I love the bright blue/purple which is 10k and up but would hate to not see anything. Now this can be in just snow or something I forgot where I read it at. If someone can break down the visability factors adn legal issues it would be great.

Also if they are illegal what is the best way to prevent getting pulled over? I know some Audi's are pretty purple and bright, how do they get away with it?

If you civic accepts h4 bulbs then you don't need to buy a PNP kit. Buy "casper shields" from casper electornics and OEM ballasts and bulbs. Then pay someone to make a wiring kit for you. You will have quality parts and buy new bulbs at a car dealership or ebay.

As for the purple/bluish color from the audi headlights, it is prodcued by the projector lens and the shield.

PS: ALL HID kits are illegal in all 50 states. I read on clubrsx.com that retrofits are legal.

Retrofits: cutting your stock headlight then mounting OEM hid projector or hid reflector into the headlight.

the light produced from a casper shield is still broken up.

i had it on my ek, the light produced allowed me to see very well, but it was very scattered, and blinded the **** out of everyone...

if you get HID's do it right, get retrofit projectors in. HID's in halogen housings is wierd....

Well for both my eg's I was getting the one piece projectors and wanting to install the HID kit with it. As far as the bike goes I just wanted a bright different look so people can see me very well. So are you saying having projectors with the HID's will give it better output?

absolutely

HID's are meant to be used with projectors for even light distribution. Without projectors, the lighting is uneven and blinds oncoming drivers since most reflective headlamps dont create a cutoff that projectors would

Ok thanks for the info guys. I plan on getting the projectors with the HID kit. I'll prob get around 10k. I'll look into that site also. It won't be till the first of the year but I want to get everything lined up and ready.

Don't get 10k. The higher the color temperature (K), the less lumens (light output).

4300Kish is the best. If you are dead set on higher do not go above 6000K

But isn't it the higher the temp the more blue and purple it is? Isn't 4300k white? Then what is the light output on the audi's lexus' that are pretty blue?

Why would you want Blue or Purple light flashing in front of you? When the best and SMARTEST reason for lighting would be WHITE LIGHT because well... you can SEE. If you're talking about the light you see when you look at them then that's the light you're seeing on the light spectrum at that angle and whatnot.

Alright guys I just got off the HIDPlanet.com page and I NOW understand the whole HID concept. Thanks for everything as I DO want to improve lighting not the glare/color. I will keep on searching on the ^ site and decide but so far I think between 4300k and 5000k.

Thanks again I wasn't tring to be ricey just didn't understand. This will be the only Outside appearance on my cars. I ride stock on the outside. besides wheels etc.

keep reading hidplanet.com
audi, bmw, tsx, s2k, etc. all run 4300K light bulbs. the only reason why you see blue/purple from their HID headlight is because you're looking at the cutoff of the headlight. the light is pure white when it hits the ground.

if you want the quality of audi, then you must retrofit. plus this is the best way to keep it legal. HID kits are junk, i always want to puch everyone with a kit that drives behind me. it's like a huge wall of blue light.

here's my s2k retrofit:

see how the light on the ground is pure white, but at the cutoff it's blue/purple.

8krdline, not true. HID are ment to be used with a proper shield. projector or reflector doesn't mater. with a proper shield, it can pervent tons of glare from on coming traffic.

lexus is300, es300 all use reflector hid. tons of other cars come OEM hid with no projetors and dont blind people.

Yea I know, but what I meant to say was that you shouldnt just stick the bulb in a civic housing like most people do without any shield
