Default SRS Light On

Hello,
I know there probably has been numerous topics on this subject but I could use some advice. My mom has a 1999 Accord EX with the V6. Her SRS light came on last week. The car has never been in an accident and she has never hit anything that I know of. Is there an easy way to turn it off? Is there a common problem that causes it to come on? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

What trouble code does it have stored?

Try to reset it, you only need 5min of time a paper clip.

search in honda-tech, i make a coupe thread and answered abunch already.

if the srs light comes back on after a while, it's likely to be one of two thing

1)alternator about to go out, notice the slipping tranny due to the bad alterator

2)Seat belt buckle recall, they have a recall on most of the v6, pre01-02 accord. it will trigger the light without reason. My friend got it fixed for free.

my 00 accord 4cyl started showing the SRS light as well a few weeks ago,,did the reset and cleared it a few times,,,i am finding that if i dont unbuckle the drivers side seat belt that the light wont come on, but if i unbuckle the seat belt with car running the SRS light will come on..............dont know what to do to fix it yet, but will keep checking.
how do i go about finding if there is a recall on my 2000, and should it be covered or do i pay to have it fixed............thanks

Thanks for reply's guys. My mom corrected me and it's a 2000 Accoord EX. She has had the seat belt recall fix done. Also, the EGR was recently replaced. We haven't checked the trouble codes yet. She mentioned the car is shifting funny too. Which may be the alternator as mentioned by iam7head.

I have a 1995 Accord Wagon (never been in an accident). A buddy of mine (who's a Honda Tech) ran the paper Clip test, and the code came back as a bad SRS Module (about $500 to fix). I told him to reset it...but the light came back on. Not to worry...I got in an accident last year...and the airbags worked fine. (lol)

okay, what does your misfortune have anything to do with this thread?

oh well, good luck you hi-jacker

and about tranny shifting funny, when those pos alternator about take a dump, you'll find yourself not shifting beyound 1st, so anything over 40 is disabled pretty much.

i don't know the four banger are included or not, but since you asked, this is what you can do. get a VIN number(it's the long **** number with abc on the door jam, under the hood and pretty much labeled every major body panel, if you still not sure, go look at your insurance paper) and call you local honda dealer, if it's yay, you got a free fix, if not, it's not likely to be the buckle. it's something else and you have to find it.

if i am not mistaking, it means that it is time for inspection of the sys. i think its like every 7-10 years or something like that. my 96 dx light came on around 70k and my 91 wagon light came on around the same time. i totally ignore it though. my 96 went to 125k without any problems til it got totaled in a wreck. my air bags still deployed with no problem. my current ride the wagon is at 116k without any problems. at night time when i drive i see so many other 4th and 5th gen accords that choose to ignore their lights as well. my honda dealer wanted to charge like 100 bucks to inspect back in 2000 so i said what the hell and ignored it every since.
