Default exhaust camshaft a tooth out.......................

whilst changing the timing belt the exhaust camshaft was one tooth out. the car drives a little better than before but nothing to shout home about. Could the valve clearances have been adjusted to compensate ?
Are the clearances easy to adjust ? any help would be sweet !

Ah, no. I'd keep the cam timing the way it's supposed to be. I'm surprised you're not getting a code 9.
