Anyone making carbon hoods? mounting question
I am finishing up an new hood and wondering what others are using for their latching system. I have used this version for about about a year and works fine but what are your guys using? I am talking about the mounting system not the latch. This is hood is for the 05-up charger. It is a cosmetic hood and has a fiberglass frame. It still only weighs 8.7lbs and it is about one and a half in size to a integra hood for comparison. It was fully vacuum infused using epoxy resins.
Here is the back mouting and the one below is the mounting for the hinge. They take off their stock one and transfer it to this hood. I use Baily structural adheasive to mount them. Same stuff that ferrari uses.

This is a crappy pic but you can kinda see how the latch is placed

Here is the hood right before we put the 2 piece together

Here is the finished hood. Look how huge this thing is 49x67 inchs!! Don't mind all the sanding dust that is on it

Here is our manufacturing process for this particular hood. Everything is bagged down in the molds dry then resins are injected into the laminate. Our integra hood we are doing now will be a full frame hood and weigh only 7lbs. It will be as thick as say a ViS hood but so much lighter and stronger.

I'm really anticipating your full line of hoods. I've been looking so long for a maker who has standards that finally meet my own. I've asked you before about vented hoods, would you be able to make them, and about what ballpark price would we be looking at then? Thanks, I can't wait till you make one for the DC5.

Awesome we are working on getting the hood going now! We started with the 99-00 civic hood and the 94-01 Integra hood is next. Then we will move to the DC5!
Thanks for the props and the interest!

we will have OEMs of course, but as far as other designs I don't really know what is in the future. Carbon fiber is so scarce now that most carbon companies (seibon, fiber images, and ViS) will no loger be able to get any because thier fabric consumption is so high! I give them 3 months till they are either gone or only selling fiberglass stuff! I can stay above water because my fabric consumption is low. I need about a roll a month versus the companies that need a roll a day. So that gives me plenty of time to locate one. They are not making ANY 3k carbon for the domestic market next year. That is what most hood companies use. The alternative is 4 times more money so it will be interesting to see what happens. Worldwide most weavers are not selling to china. Because they can get more for the fabric elsewhere, plus they are not happy how they have cheapened carbon and made the market think it is brittle and weak. It is just the way they make the products not the raw amaterial. Carbon is double the strength of steel by weight if made right and kevlar is 5 times stronger then steel by weight again if made right. Adding do much fiberglass to their parts makes them brittle and weak!
