d16 turbo questions.
hey im lookin to go turbo with my d16, but im not looking for huge power gains. at least not now. i just want to be quick. i found some kits online, they are not complete but like the major parts, turbo, charge pipes, intercooler, manifold wastegate etc. they start at like 900 bucks. are they crap kits? keep in mind im not rich and not looking for hugh power gains. let me know what you guys think. thanks.
if you are talking about the ones on ebay then yes. some of their parts are pretty cheap. Id put your own together and just run like 5-6 lbs.
im not rich either but i have a 11 second civic.....go all motor for d-sereis way cheap pm me ill tell u what im running...o btw im non-turbo but nitrous is ur best friend when it comes to all motor!!!!!!!!!!
you mean the parts in the cheap kits? well some of them are prone to cracking, like manifolds and some of the turbos are cheaply made. So yes that could screw up your car. But pm him^^ and see what hes running. A lot of people tend to forget that NA is an option
id say youll pretty much always pay too much if you buy a pre made kit. And if youre putting your own together, your gonna need to start doin some research.

if you dont have a great deal of knowledge or a large knowledge base on turob's on honda vehicles just buy a greddy kit for 1200 bucks brand new and be done with it, you'll get everything you need to run 6 pounds have a much quicker car
Some people have gone under $500 for a dirt-cheap turbo kit. $130 for a 50trim t3 w/internal wastegate, $100 for charge piping, HF manifold plus adapter $50-80, free uberdata basemap ($30 for someone to install/chip your ecu), $155 johnnyracecar.com intercooler, $50 for chargepipe couplers, and $50 for a shop to fab up a downpipe for your exhaust.

I though all-motor means just that, all motor. So you have a N2O motor Civic that runs 10.
You get what you pay for, cheap kits= cheap parts. IMHO, rising rate regulators and retarted initall timing are hacks. Look into the Edelbrock kit, if you must have a bolt on kit.
If you have a D16Y5 or D16Y7, you might want to spend you money on a "mine-me" VTEC conversion first.

Im also looking to go turbo sohc in my next civic project. My buddy runs a ebay manifold, precision fmic, with a gt32-51 turbo and on 16psi make close to 300whp (built motor and head) I would like to get 200-250topswhp. Is building the motor a must?
well for me it is i just dont trust those pencil sized rods that the stock d's run on...i hate the head im using (on my new project) its a y7 non-vtec so im going to make it a full race cam so its better than v-tec..still looking for a turbo kit and mani..how much was ur friends manifold and whered he get it? is it that cheap as ss auto chrome ****?
ssauto chrome crap mani is fine if u know how to weld
just weld some suports on the mani where the turbo bolts on and youll be good
ive been running a ssautocrap for about a year now and still no problems.and the turbos are great if you get them rebuilt , balanced.
