What's faster: Lowering a car or getting a set of great street tires?
I just had a debate with a friend and now am curious what the factual consensus is. I believe that by lowering a car's center of gravity it will be faster than a car that has a pair of great street performance tires; say for instance the Falken Azenis RT-615s. When I say lowered, I mean completely lowered and the best - unless something is better than the 615s - street tires. What do you guys think? Please put some thought into this. Anyone with the knowledge of physics that can explain this, please don't hesitate to chime in.

Tires. Always.
Man, I had a Bison burger with cheddar and bacon at Ruby Tuesday's today. Sonofabitch that was a good burger....

do you guys have any idea how hard it is to find "tasteful" panty pictures on the internet?

Whenever I'm at Ruby Tuesday's, I consider ordering the bison burger, but when I see it on the menu it reminds me that for 33 years of my life I thought buffalo live in north america. So much for growing up with the buffalo nickel, Buffalo Bill, the Buffalo Bills, tatanka and buffalo wings. Maybe I'll order the bison burger next time, the Mama Mia burger just didn't do it for me.
Oh yeah, tires.

see, being from minnesota i might be able to clear up some confusion here.
bison is the scientific name for the north american buffalo. when the europeans came here, the only thing they could compare the animal to was the water buffalo of africa, so they started calling it a buffalo. but if you want to act all smart, call it a bison.

It really does all happen where the rubber meets the road.
I'd bet dollars to donuts that a set of sticky rubber will be faster than lowering a car. You won't get any mAdd-tyte style y0! points, but still....

Isn't this the guy that brags about going "canyon running"?
It can be argued that the faster modication isn't tires or a completely lowered suspension, it's installing Andy Hope in the driver's seat.

They do, mostly out west. But there is a farm that raises Buffalo (aka Bison) about 15 minutes from my house here in Cleveland county, NC.
Next time you go, order it medium. Mmm, mmm good. Seriously, best restaurant burger I've had in a long, long time.

Hey guys... I think he's asking whether good streets is better vs good streets and lowered... read on...
He's saying street tires is:

Oh, completely lowered!
My bad.....
I was thinking he was holding off, like eating chili without the cheddar cheese on top and a cold beer to go along with it...

Yep. Corners like it's on rails... frame rails.

I'd say tires too. You could lower your car to the ground and have crappy snow tires on and the DOT R shod car should be faster. Traction is the main key about autocrossing. You can never get too much of it

Thanks and I'll go ahead and try to clarify a few things. This is not pertaining to autocrossing but just performance driving in general. The two sides are:
1. Lowering springs and decent stock tires and that's it. No shocks, no camber, toe, none of that. Just the lowering springs with adjusted spring rates. Not coilovers either.
OR
2. Stock suspension with say Falken Azenis RT-615s street tires NOT
R-compound tires.
The scenarios are for the same car. In the case of the debate with my friend, we were talking about a 95 Civic Hatchback.

Then the car with the better driver will win.
Why is this in here?
