Salvaged car
It was rear-ended and the insurance salvaged it.. it has 80k miles. 1988 Si.
Do you think its worth it for 1k? How would i go about registering a salvaged car? thanks
oh yeah, it runs great.. do you think the frame was bent?

every state's different as far as titling a salvaged car....usually it entails fixing the damage and having before/after pics and receipts/vin numbers for all of the replacement parts....then an inspection must be made...this is typical, I'd find out what's entailed first....
I would try and find a body guy to take a look at it with you. Find out what it would cost to repair. That will probably determine what it is worth. My guess is that it might cost more to fix it than it is worth. It could be a good parts car for another project though.
rear passenger side quarter paneling - 120 bucks. cost to weld it in? i dunno
rear hatch with glass - 150 bucks junkyard at max
taillight. 20 bucks.
all your really lookin at is labor. it doesnt really look like theres any chassis damage or upper frame damage.

well heres the thing...how much is it going to cost to fix. Add that to what ever youre going to pay and ask if you would pay that much for a crx si. If the frame is bent (which it dosent look like it is)...thats not something you can fix in your garage with a mallet. Id call around, find out the cost to fix and then bargin for a reasonable price with the owner.

I bought mine for 200, it got backed into by a semi, front left corner, and it's cost me about another 600 so far for repairs, parts and what not, for 1000, I'd get it, but part it out for something better shape bodywise, but I'd still check around, network and see what you can come up with, I got my frame fixed at some guys house for 150 bux, it's not perfect, i had to shim the fender a little, but it looks a helluva lot better than it did.
the guy said the rex was stopped and a car going 30-35mph rear-ended him.. i dont think the frame was bent but how much $$ does it cost to fix a frame? Thanks for all the replies, keep'em coming!
Just check to see if the passengers side door opens and closes with normal effort. Look up in the rear pass. wheel well to see if it's crumpled. Look under the spare tire to see if the floor is crumpled. Is the quarter glass broken? I'd take a pretty hard look at the rest of the car before I spent a grand on it. Does the car already have a salvage title? If so $1K is pretty steep...by the time you've repaired it with a salvage title you'd never get any $ out of it - probably why it's for sale in the first place.
i was also rear ended how can i tell if my frame is bent. the passenger door does rub with the rear fender a lil now. it also crinkled both rear fenders and front fenders. if it is bent how much would it cost to get it straightened.
Defintaly try and go for a better deal. I had my 4g hatch stolen and ended up buying it back for 600 bucks with no body damage and engine still intact. (they took suspension). 1k is still a good deal though
I'd need to see a picture from the side to check for any frame damage... but unless that has ZERO rust, and a sweet motor, I'd have to say it's not worth it...

i decided not to get it... i thought about it and i really dont want to go thru the hassle of getting it fixed etc... I've already found some other crx's that i'm gonna go look at on monday and tuesday.
Good choice, that would sell for about $250 or less at a slavage sale.
Just for the record, there really is no frame to bend on a unitbody (unibody as some call it) car. The car is the frame with the exception of the hood, hatch, doors, and fenders. So technically speaking, if a quarter panel is hit, the frame is bent. There really is no worry about the frame bending. If the car gets hit bad enough that the gaps have changed, the chassis is bent and it will need to be put on to a frame machine to square it around. Frame machine time is usually pricey, but it's no big deal. These aren't old muscle cars that will drive crooked with a bent frame.
I know I'm not getting my point across well, but basically I'm saying that all of the worry about bent frames on a civic doesn't make sense. There is no frame, so it can't be bent. It's not like an old full framed car where you might get hit on the rear quarter, but it didn't get in to the frame. If a civic gets hit on the rear quarter, its in to the frame because that is the frame.
It's not a black and white type of measurement like it would be on an old Nova where you could theoretically take the body off of the frame and measure and see that there was no damage. Try taking your civic off of the frame. You can't. If you take the body off, you have nothing.
You just need to access the size of the dent. The car is can be 'dented' bad enough that you either need a machine to pull the dents (dents can be bad enough to put the rear wheel where the driver sits or the roof through the floor) or you need to clip the car... or the car can be slightly dented to the point where it needs just pounded out. They're all just dents of vastly varying size.
Don't ask if the frame is bent in front of a body man because it's like a girl asking the car dealership asking the guy where the clutch is on an automatic. You're making their eyes light up with dollar signs.
CLIFFS: Civic has no frame. Civic is a 'frame'. Almost any hit would constitute bent 'frame'.
To beat a horse that I've already almost killed from boredom... As an example, this car doesn't even have a bent frame....
