Default 97 civic exhaust system

Hey guys, as you can see I am new to this forum, and I am now a owner of a 97 Civic. I am planning on adding exhaust to my car first, then afterwards I am going for a body kit and just small things after that. Even though I am knowledgable in the field of Calculus, sadly I do not have any knowledge of where to look and what to look for when modding my civic. That is why I came here. Now I will state my query, what type of exhaust system should I purchase and where should I buy it? Also, I am not goign to be street racing with this car, so for my car to be 'loud' would I need just a new muffler or and entire exhaust kit? I apologize if I am doing something wrong in this post and thanks for your help guys!

Joe

As my father says, do it right, or don't do it at all. I used to be just like you "I want to keep it stock engine, I want to have a body kit, I want my car to be uber ******* loud." I did some research, definitely changed from what I used to be.

Yeah, I used to be a R.I.C.E.R.

If you're not going to spend a good amount of money (a few hundred) on a catback exhaust system, don't expect to get a nice sound. You get a "deep throaty" sound with engine work (intake, headers, cams, turbo, sc, etc)... not by sticking a loud fart can on the *** end of your vehicle.

Body kits normally aren't liked by many people, esp the gaudy busy ones. Get a factory body kit, or front/rear lip and have your sideskirts painted to match your car. Clean up your engine bay (you can buy kits for this), spend good money on rims and tires, put on some lowering springs. No body stickers, no big windsheild stickers (used to have that too), NO NEONS, yada yada.

Search function on this forum is your best friend. This place is a huge wealth of info, so do yourself a favor and use it.

It just like taking derivatives and integrals haha. you get what you pay for....IMO ebay exhausts are crappily made, sound horrible, and will rust on you. If you want loudness for cheap, go to your local parts store, buy the largest APC fart can you can find, and bring it somewhere and have them make your pipes for you. Since you dont seem to be performance oriented, you might even want to go with just a rear section, shoudlnt cost too much. depending on how low you dropped your car, be careful that your fart can isnt tooo big, or it will hit the ground. I hope this helps you in your conquest for rice.

If you want a cheap but excellent sounding/quality exhaust then get the greddy evo fakes on ebay. They are like 280 shipped, full stainless, and sound awesome.

Where are all the flamers wow i was lookin to see people really give him a hard time. First im not going to preach to you about street racing being bad but i will give you a hint, you dont want a loud *** exhaust for street racing... think its common sense loud noise=more attraction and **** people off there for calling the cops.. Do you think having a loud exhaust will make u faster thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard, you really need to read up about things with cars and see what will help you out. Also with being loud you either trade good sound for loud or you take a semi quite exhaust and have a nice deep tone without raspyness. So i will just awnser your question an apexi n1 muffler with 2.5 custome catback piping no resinator or cat and you will sound like **** and loud. An dc sports or WS2 will be a quiter one give you the same performance and not be raspy... you choose people making fun of you are saying "wow nice sounding car normally you get these idiots that want a loud car to be cool"

A word of advice is dont get a kit man. Bad things happen to kits. lower it a little bit get some springs.and get a lip. if you get a body kit and get hit lightly your **** will crack like none other. Also if you want to save some money it will be a lot easier and cheaper to make your car look nice and less issues down the road.

For the exhaust- you might want something a bit louder now but think a little down the road, you might not always want to hear your exhaust every time you go somewhere. I am not trying to say dont get a more audiable exhaust but just something to think about.

As for good exhausts check out GReddy, RS*R, A'pexi, DC Sports, Magnaflow.... just a few to get you started.
