Default For you Auto-x/Road Racers - What R-compound and size are you running?

Towards the end of the upcoming season I'll be looking into purchasing some R-compounds for milennia or stock wheels (15x6)...Mostly for Auto-x, but I might run one track event on them...which might not be a good idea since its my first track event, but not my first auto-x

Just wondering what some of you out there are using and/or recommend for someone switching over from RE0-10's

I was thinking of the A032Rs in 205/50-15....
But I saw over in the competition forum some people were using 215/45-15s..

If you're running r-compounds, or considering it, you should save the bucks and get a roll bar instead.

My rule of thumb: No rollbar/cage? Then no r compound.

I've been running 205/50-15 Kumhos. Plenty fast. I'm about to shoehorn on 225/45-15 Hoosiers for the first HC race.

Do NOT run r compounds on your first track event, I don't care if you've been autocrossing for 359.3 years.

I used to run A032Rs and run some BFG R1s now. Next will be hoosiers for the nissan.

What class are you running in? Last year I ran 225 BFGs on stock wheels in GS - I'm planning on running in STX this year.

I know the hot setup was 225s up front and 205s in the rear...

That's what I ran back in GS...225/205(F/R)/50/15 combo. Kumho Victoracers. That was an autocross-only setup, and required 5 mm spacers. I run 205's all around on the road course (don't need the extra rotation).

Does anyone know if the new Kumho V700 in the 225/45/15 size will fit on ALL FOUR corners of the ITR?

You don't really NEED spacers to run 225s up front. I have run a number of events without spacers and it seems that you get almost as much rub with as without. Just don't turn the tires almost all the way to full lock.

Now 225s on the rear....spacers required.

Hoosier R's 225/45/15 on 7" Volk TE-37's...

Before everyone starts bitching, the Hoosiers were FREE! If you can believe it...

The Volk's I just happened to get a very good deal on.

225/50/15 F
205/50/15 R
on Mazda Millenia Wheels

I really like the setup...but...my rear tires are older than the front. Being that they are older and narrower, I have to get used to the extra rotation because the fronts are grippier than the backs.

thanks for the replies...

yeah i wasn't sure if running R comps on my first track event would be a good idea or not...i'll just run on the RE010's for a couple of events

I'll be in DS...

Is there a certain tire i should be looking at for double duty (auto-x and road course?)

Because i know the hoosiers offer a different tire for the road course than for auto-x...

basically, for a novice driver, will I be ok using A032Rs for auto-x and eventually (when i am more expereinced) on the road course?

also, does anyone have any further information (websites etc) for any roll bars that dont cost an arm and a leg?

Do you guys use longer studs with the spacers? How much thread engagement do you guys get when you use spacers? How many turns on the lugs do you get with and without the spacer?

I count about 6.5 maybe 7 turns on my car. Is this safe (autox/street/track)? I'm a little leary about using them w/o installing the longer studs.

-allen (just got my 5mm spacers and noticed no hub lips on 'em)

how do you like them? I was just wondering becuase it seemed like they were tryingh to get as much width as possible (which is understandable) but I was just wondering if the 205/50s were adequate enough

yeah 205 AO32R will be fine for your first season, no doubt. They are sooo nice and sticky when new you'll be stoked. I ran them all last year (10+ autocrosses) and did a trackschool at Pocono. sick sick sick grip. But, I hear from a lot of autocrossers with much more experience than I, that AO32R are not as sticky as Kumho V700 or the even-stickier Hoosiers. If you have a dedicated set of wheels for the slicks, get Hoosiers or V700's. If you want to drive to the trackdays or drive a few hundred miles once in a while on the street on your slicks, get the AO32R. I did and I couldnt bare to take them off so I used them for daily driving.. still do, and no no no I'm never goin back to 'normal' tires! noooooooooooo!
Well, maybe some Azenis

I use 5mm spacers on the front (squeezing 225's on stock wheels like everyone else). I didn't bother with the longer studs, and it hasn't been a problem so far. If I'm not mistaken, the rule of thumb is 5 turns minimum- so if you're getting 6.5 or 7, you should be fine.

lol...I think I'm going to be picking up some Milennia Wheels, so I guess whichever tire (a032 or v700) is cheaper at the time, that's what i'll pick up

Sounds like I'm cool then. I mean, it IS the autox setup to be on (225/205) and I haven't heard of anyone's stud snapping (if so please speak up).

Oh, I forgot to mention that I had read this on tirerack, hence my worries:
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/torque.htm

It states that for 12x1.5mm studs the min # turns is 6.5.

So 225/205 Victos it is for this weekend
