Default Shopping for a new tranny....any recommendations?

i currently have a j1 tranny and i think its makin all kinds of noises. Its gonna cost a lot to rebuild, so im just gonna replace it with a used one. So which should i got with? Any j1,s1,y1 tranny is a direct fit right? The itr is too much money plus ill need some extra parts for it.

Which is better, j1 or y1? y1 lsd?

Well the J1 is the best..I think it has the same gearing as the usdm integra-r..It would be nice to have a y1 with lsd though,,Or if you can find a ys1 with lsd..Its the same as the j1 except 1st gear..

this is an opinion. i personally think the Y1 is better with or without the lsd.

how much is it going to cost to rebuild it and what parts does that include? i have always wanted to know because some day im going to have this decision my self but i would rather have a new tranny(rebuilt) than a use one.

I also reccomend the JDM or 92-93 GSR YS1 tranny.

I have one which I dropped in an ITR LSD, but I can't tell you how it is, since the CRX is still being built up. However the YS1 tranny alone without LSD is still a fun tranny. It has shorter gear ratio set-up than an ITR (well actually just 1st and 3rd is shorter) except that the 98+ ITR Final drive is tighter. But it's like crack to the cable tranny guys.

If you decide to keep the J1, I suggest to junk that stock differential, it's a time bomb ticking. My wife and I were stranded on the freeway about 100 miles away from home when our J1 diff decided to blow.

Gear-speed wants 1500 for a ys1 lsd I checked out passwordjdm and they have a 96 spec itr with lsd for 1200. Any other good places to buy trannies from?

I bought my non-LSD YS1 from Steve at HMotorsonline for $450.00

I then found an ITR LSD on ebay for $300.00

and I also found a GSR/ITR 4.40 Final drive set on ebay ($160.00) which I only used the ring gear. I still have the pinion.....I'm trying to sell that.

i got lucky and found a y1 with lsd for 800 shipped to my house . soon as i got it home i cracked it open and put an ls 5th gear and counter gear in it . gas mileage out the anus plus highway speeds with little or no rpms. 2k rpm = 45 mph every 250 rpm gives me 5 more mph . i think it runs about 3500 at 80 mph on the interstate.
