Default I'm curious, how many GRM Challenge cars are being built here....

I have seen a number of people here mention thier GRM cars and I'm curious to see a show of hands.

I'm building a 1991 CRX and though it's the car's first time at the challenge it will be my third year attending as a driver.

I am a part of the same project. It might end up a turboed b16 if we can find a b16 head for cheap. Still searching for the deals.

I think one of the interesting things about this competition is that you have to choose between motor or handling. You just don't have enough money to do both.

We're kind of bucking tradition and doing handling.
Motor is the better bet, because it pays off in both the autoX and the drag, but we're stupid. That, and we want to see how well a $2000 car can autocross.

We just hope to survive the drag race. The over/under for us is 16 seconds.
The safe bet is over .

Clemson Sport Car Club is planning on entering at least 3 cars next year.

We placed 5th in the auto-x and ran a 14.3 with our 88 Si club car with stock motor Our little beater is ready for next year.

I just found the club an 85 RX-7 GSL-SE with lots of goodies for cheap! That will be our $1003 car to challenge the "clown"

We just got our turbo FC running which was supposed to make it this year...but it took us a little longer than we tought. Good things take time

Would love to enter the competition. We talk about it all the time at the house. But I'm not sure if my bf and I have the time to do the next one as we want to enter the next Targa Newfoundland Rally. We have a $200 '79 RX-7 and a $750 '88 Alltrac as potential candidates. Have a '93 DX hatch bought for $500 also.

We love the magazine and I signed up for the 10 year subscription special a few months ago.

:blort:
You simply MUST build this car.
No argument. Just go out in the garage right now and get started.

We hope to get our CRX running this weekend. Fingers are crossed.

My two bay cinderblock garage is occupied by an integra coupe shell and the RX-7. The backyard has a 2" layer snow on it. Plus in order to stay within the $2006 budget, we have to plan all the expenses very very carefully. There is little aftermarket support for these ST165's. It's not like a Civic or teg where there is an abundance of used performance parts. A new nice radiator is about $300... and it's not all aluminum, however Matt has a manual boost controller on his desk in the basement that is earmarked for the Alltrac.

Me!

Rotary Midget.

I already have a 1979 sitting on blocks ($400).

But, I also have a line on an old E-Modified autocross car for $500 minus engine (but with rollbar, engine mounts, and header).

And I also have a line on a Racing Beat Holley intake and carb setup for another $500.

Assuming I get the EM car and the RB/Holley intake, I'll have $1000 for paint, new harness, and whatever parts I need to add back to make it GRM legal (headlights, dash, etc). Should easily make 140rwhp and weigh less than 1600lbs. If we can find budget for a streetport or nitrous, we'll be shooting for ~200rwhp.

'85 Merkur XR4Ti (merker xrati!). We bought 5 of them + 1 4cyl mustang for $700.

300 rwhp + NOS + some big sticky hoosier take-offs is going to be tough to beat

In the drag race.
I will own you in the Autocross.

Scott, who thinks some $2006 smack talk will be fun.

I guess we'll find out.

Scott, who is throwing the entire budget at the gerbil powered shitbox's handling.

Of course, this is all contingent on the car staying in one piece. Yours has a much better chance of that.

Do y'all even have an engine yet? (Not that we do).

I did schedule some vacation in late December to get started - I'll either drive to IA to pick up the EM car, or head to Tony's farm in Orange to start de-rustification of the '79.

We'll be happy if we don't lose any fingers or poke out an eye.

If all else fails, at least we'll be loud and entertaining. Braaaaaawwaaaaaaawaaaaaaa! Kablam! Braaaaaawaaaaaaaa! Kablam! (Oh shitsticks! Tony get the extinguisher, Dan's on fire again!!!).

Catch, remember that for the drag race the 2nd day, you can remove ANYTHING you want as long as it's still legal to drag race. Things like swaybars don't help you do anything during a drag race.

I told Clemsonhatch the same thing last year at the event and they dropped something like a half second.

By the way....pull the cage. Or at least some of it. It doesn't need that much cage, and IIRC, it didn't go fast enough to even need a rollbar for the drag.

We're not stuffing a V8 in it. At least, not this year.

Weaksauce. Any fool can slap a big snail on a 2.3 and make decent power.

I really wanted to do a bike motor, but can't find a suitable one that is budget-friendly.

Already part of the plan.
But we will have a full interior for most of the competition for 2 reasons...
1. Its an STS2 car
2. The interior is really, really, really nice.

The paint isn't all that great, but my mad vinyl skillz are. .

Jesse...don't tell everyone our secret

Our club drag racer Ken (RWD guy) got down to a 15.xx we did a little weight reduction and dropped to 14.6 . He said that was as fast as our car could go and he was done trying. All the CSCC's guys told me to give it a try even though I really don't drag race much. I ran a 14.7 on my first pass and got the fever. I dropped a .1 each pass down to 14.3 We were really surprised with the semi-quick times, we expected times in the high 15's.
