Default Having second thoughts about my upcoming project

I have a 97 R with only 31k miles on it that has been sitting in a garage for 3 years now. I already bought a built LS bottom end and a full-race stage 3gt. I'm just waiting for the turbo to arrive next week or so and then it's bye-bye to the R as i know it. I didn't have any second thoughts until recently, probably because it's getting close to crunch time. It's gonna make somewhere around 550whp with up to 650 if i want to. Why, why, why am i doing this?? Because i can i guess. I'm 35 years old and i just wanna have a caged animal sitting in the garage that i hope i'll have the time to get to the short track with once in a while. Am i having an early mid-life crisis?? Please tell me it's O.K. so i'll feel better I feel like i'm doing something wrong

with all projects there is going to be ups and downs, the key is to take your time and remember why you are doing it. It is better to take your time then just half *** it.

for project cars.

Low mileage 97 R is a rare find. I have had two R's in the past and loved every second of it. I really love the car and I think that you probobly do as well the way it is so my advice is to wait until you are 100% sure thats the route you wanna take. Once you pull the motor and start the process several thousands later there is no turning back. Just my opinion but I owned a 00 FBP most recently and sold her with 9,XXX on the clock and since then I have hated myself. Although it was only a car it was somewhat special to me so what I am trying to say is although it is only a car it is semi rare and near stock form as it is so please be sure of your de4cision before you do something irreversable. Hope this helps. Good luck with whatever route you take.

as long as you take your time and do it right you shoudnt have anything to worry about. as long as there no major cutting on the car you can put it back to stock someday.if you dont do it then you'll say "i was so close to building a car i always wanted but didnt" then that willl be in the back of your mind. but it all comes down to its your money and your car, everyones style is different and you only live once. i say go for it, buy a set of drag radials so you can at least getting traction by 4th gear and hang on to the streering wheel tight, cause you in for a fun ride.

Instead opening a can of worms, buy some generation of Porsche 911 for the typical midlife
crisis. I always think of someday replacing the R with older 930 turbo or Ferrari so I will be finish with the Kiddie world.

If you have the extra money why not look for another car to build as your "race car" that you wont have to worry about messing with.

If this is what you want to do with the R, then do it. If you are having serious doubts though, then just push the parts aside while you think about it some more.

I thought about buying another car for this, but this is the only car that i actually "own" outright. I can't justify buying yet another car while the R sits in the garage collecting dust. If i did i would have the R, plus the built car, plus a daily driver..Along with my wifes car, i think it would be a little ridiculous..As if what i''m doing isn't ridiculous enough

i see what your saying. In the end it is your car so putting aside the fact its a rare car with low miles, its still just a car. If building it will allow you to get more pleasure out of owning it then ide say go for it.

Like others have already said just make sure you do everything right and try not to modify the car itself (ie. drilling, cutting) anymore then you have to so if you do decide you want to transfer it back to stock, it wont be painfully obvious that it was modified before.

Good Luck with the project
