???? For those who have had their R stolen.
What kind experience did you have with the insurance company????? I have been told that my R is totaled, but haven't been offered an amount for it. How much will I get for it???? It was an 01 in perfect condition with 20k miles. I need some idea so that I can start looking for another car.
Thanks

Well, they acused me of steeling it, even though I had bought a new one a month after it was stolen. They just dragged their feet for the longest time... Then three months TO THE DAY they called me to offer a settlement. At first they wanted to give me the value of a GSR. I told the guy he had to do a little more research than that. Eventually I got the money, and I even asked them to send me back the "special" key the 98's came with so I had something to remember #1189 by...
Oh, and this was back in 2000, and they gave me ~$20k for my 98 w/ 30k miles.

I had a great experience, because I have a great insurance company...USAA. They are known to be the best. As funny as it sounds, I made money when my R was stolen. The insurers gave me more money for my stolen one than I paid for a slightly used one with less miles than my stolen one had (both were 98s).
Three months! Damn. Did they find your car? I don't think I can wait that long. I can only keep the rental car for 30 days total, and I have had for 9 days now. I might have to buy a beater. Thanks for the reply.

They found a little bit of my car a week after it was stolen. Half of the frame was being welded onto an LS, and the steering column was found next to the car. They did find the guy, (thaks to the MA stolen car task force), but I don't know if he was prosecuted yet.
My insurance company only covered my rental car for a month, so I was on my own for the next couple months. The good news is that you do have legal rights if they try to stretch it out past 3 months... There also seemed to be a lot more room for haggling in the whole process than I would have ever guessed.

I was told the other day that another Type R was stolen in our area. This one was a 97.
The police told me that you are better off leaving your doors unlocked, this way thieves don't have to break your windows to steal your stuff......comforting words.

-who would have been pissed if the officer told him that....
I was told a car a day was stolen in my town, but he said they usually show up....more borrowed than stolen I suppose. My first mod on my next car will be an alarm.....
