Default bypassing my IAC.

I tried this lat night, let's see if anybody bites on this one.

I've got a bored T.b. off a d16z6, my d16y8 IAC won't fit. Can I bypass the IAC, and if so, how?

are you referring to coolant bypass, or completely removing the iacv?

Completely removing it. I have a 60mm TB from a d16z motor and I have the d16y8 IACV. I'm wondering if I should try to make it work(if someone knows how)or just get mine bored or buy an aftermarket TB.

If it can't be done, it can't be done or if it just won't run right for a driver, then I'll do it the right way....

Well if you bypass the coolant line i do not think it would matter to have the valve there. That alone pretty much makes it useless!

I finally decifered with the hell your trying to do and it wont work, the IACV holes are lined up differently on the TB's

the IACV is controlled from the ECU.... the FITV on the other side is controlled by the coolant temperature running through it... which one do you want to remove?

OK, I know that the holes don't line up. That's why I'm asking. I built an adapter, but it won't idle below 2k. I figure the IACV is what I needs to get it to Idle down, but I know that some EFI systems don't have IACVs, they just use a set screw to keep the blades open enough. There are passages through the TB to allow air via the IACV, if I just put a tube from one hole to the other, it should get the air it needs, regardless of what the ECU wants.

As far as the coolant lines, you can disconnect them without running into any problems at all. You just need to return that coolant to the system. It's an old TPI/LT1 trick that GM folks use. I don't think it adds power, but it makes swapping parts a hell of a lot easier.

I'm a bit of a hillbilly when it comes to modifying cars. I once put a holley 2 barrel off of an 1985 Dodge Diplomat cop car on my 82 Accord. It ran fine. I have done some very wierd things with cars that worked very well. I've built motors from drag racers to lawnmowers, set up suspensions on dirt trackers, worked in a frame shop, I've been a painter, a panel beater and even an auto parts salesman. I know a little about cars. I've owned 5 Hondas, but this is the first one I'm modifying AND planning to drive for a while.

I got the TB for a case of beer, so I figure I'll play with it until I get pissed off and buy one or get mine bored. But if it can work, what the hell, right?

That's not hillibilly at all--that's creative and shows you know your physics. Most people won't even think that something like that will even work. That's creative and many Europeans do similar things due to lack of resources. Don't worry about it. Hell, I've done my fair share of similar setups.

If you have a FITV valve, you can by pass the coolant on it, and open the plunger as much as you want which will change your idle accordingly. Also, try playing with the idle screw on the throttle body and see if that allows you to idle below 2k.

Hey, here's the update:

I built a block-off plate to take the whole IACV out and it wouldn't run. I couldn't get it to idle. I built a tube to bypass it and it went to 3000 and I shut it off. It was 6 degrees out and my fingers were numb, so I went in the house and had a few beers. I put the stock TB back on, and everything's good.

If it were even close to warm up here I'd mess with it until I got it to work, but for now I'll shelve that business. I'm getting too damn old to play Hot Rodder in the cold. I'm a puss.
