HIDS ZX-7R
Not worth it.
But if you have to do it, then you will need to figure out what type of bulb you use (probably H4), and then buy a bulb, ballast, and wiring harness to plug into your existing harness. Whatever damage you do to your bike is on you.

I used a set of HIDs off a BMW 540 for my gsxr. If your bike uses a H7 bulb, you just need to trim the plastic from the base a bit (you'll see what I'm talking about when you test fit the bulb into the headlight). Other than that, pick up a 9006 bulb male plug harness from your local auto parts store to plug into the ballast and tap or solder it to your existing headlight harness
First of all - SPELLCHECK.
Next : Figure out what type of headlight bulb is in your bike - probably going to be an H4 bulb (H7 bulb is single filament).
Look in the vendors section and accesories/lighting sections on this site - you'll see a few different threads on where to buy kits.
You will need a kit per bulb - a kit will have everything you need for "plug and play" installation.
Be aware that you will lose the high beam function when doing this conversion.
I would recommend that you choose a bulb in the 5K range but you can get different colors at higher ranges - higher range does not mean brighter.

http://www.suvlights.com and ask for Jen. I picked up a kit from him about 4 years ago, used it, sold the bike, and now my friend is using the HID kit with no problems. I had a h7 retrofit on my f4i, completely plug and play, no cutting, no splicing, just mount the ballast and your good to go. Going to get something for my RC51 soon.
Advantages:
1. You can actually see at night, even with a retrofit, if done properly, will somewhat space the bulb properly so your beam pattern isn't screwed up and you don't hot spots.
2. You will be seen. In both night and day, other cars will see you and think twice before making that right turn into your lane as you approach an intersection. I call this a good safety mod where it really gets the attention of others on the road where you are to not run over you.
3. Plug and play.
Disadvantages:
1. Glare...yes you'll get glare that wont affect you, it'll affect others on the road, oncoming traffic, cars ahead of you, etc. If you care about others, then don't get HIDs. Personally, I'll risk the ticket for modified headlights for safety at night at the expense of glare. The glare will depend on the reflector design in your bike, in some bikes, the glare will be pretty bad, in others, it's very minimal.
2. Mounting. If you don't have any space on the front of your bike to hide the ballast, then this wont work.
3. Cost, this isn't a cheap mod.

yes, you will have quite a bit of glare since you dont have projectors. I helped a friend install a set into his '05 ZX6R and its annoying if you're in front of him

Glare is mainly from an unfocused bulb.
I know that many of these "kits" seem to need the bulb bases modded/trimmed to fit in the housing correct;y.
I made sure that the HID bulb was the same length as the bulb I was replaceing in order to get as close as possible to correct focal point.
