What, did you buy used Konis or something? Mine came w/ all needed instructions. Each shock should have a split plastic washer, 2 metal washers (slightly different diameters), a metal sleeve, a dished washer, and 2 jam nuts (12x1.25mm, requires 19mm DEEP socket). When you assemble it, you put the plastic washer over the shock piston (still don't know what it's for), then your stock bump stop, then the smaller diameter washer, then the dustcover, then the larger diameter washer, then the spring. You have to remove the stock metal sleeve from the rubber bushings in the upper spring seat, and install the new metal sleeve back into the rubber bushings. Then you place the upper spring seat on the shock and spring, then install the dished washer and 2 jam nuts on top of the spring seat. Be sure to use a deep 19mm socket on the nuts, a shallow socket can damage the adjustor tab.
did you buy these new? or used? anyway it should have come w/ a hardward kit w/ each shock in a plastic baggie along w/ the adjustment ****... there will be some things you will need to re-use from your old set up.. but as far as I can remember it comes w/ 2 gold nuts (per shock), a new ID metal sleeve, some larger washers, the spring perch, the spring perch C-clip, and instructions in each individual shock box..
since patrick just installed his (and i did mine 3 years ago).. his description is probably more detailed than mine.. but they should all have a plastic bag of parts w/ each shock... and instructions.. if not call the place you bought it from..

i just bought a set of used yellows myself a couple of weeks ago. i haven't installed htem yet but plan on it in the next week or two. i got the shocks, the platic washer thing with the slit in it, and the nuts on the top. i definitely didn't get a new metal sleeve. hmmm, i guess i'll see how it all goes together when i install them. ill have to take another look at them when i get home tonight. i hope everything goes alright. good luck to you as well.

The new sleeve is required. The stock shock pistons taper down above the dust cover, while the Konis do not. The new sleeve is required to allow the Koni piston to fit into the stock upper spring mount and bushings. You also have to enlarge the hole in the dustcover from about 10mm dia. to 12mm dia. for this same reason. The only parts you reuse from stock are the upper mounts + 2 bushings, the bumpstops, dustcovers (all 4 shocks), and also the little bracket w/ the tab and brake line mounts (front shocks only). Make sure you have the washers also, because that's what the dustcover sits on.
Here's an install tip that I found out. When you install the front brake line brackets on the front shocks, the tab has to line up w/ the little indent on the bottom of the shock casing (the tab locates the shock fork). Install it loosely at first, and install the assembly into the car. Then get the tab lined up w/ the indent, and rotate the shock body (if necessary) so you can install the fork onto the shock. Now here's the trick, to make sure everything is seated correctly (and to keep the fork pinch bolt from stripping), you need to put a load on the shock. After you get the shock fork on the shock, install the bolt through the fork and lower control arm. Then use a jack to raise the lower control arm, and make sure the brake line bracket is all the way up on the shock, and also that the fork is all the way up against the brake line bracket. THEN install and tighten the fork pinch bolt. When I tried installing everything w/o doing this, I had trouble getting the fork onto the shock all the way, and the bolt also started to strip. On the 2nd go-around I ran a die over the bolt threads to make sure they were clean, loaded the shock, and installed the bolt and everything went in very easily.

Did you receive them in 2 red Koni boxes? One should be small (front shocks), and the other one should be larger (rear shocks which have it's own lower fork and much larger spring perch than the front ones).

if they came in the box w/ the baggie, the spring perch.. and the shock.. you should have it... the baggie is sealed and has all your hardware in it... although i think it might have been patrick or someone else on these forums that they shipped the wrong hardware kit to.. so it might be the wrong kit.. but if you have a sealed hardware kit.. everything should be there... the C clip should be already on the stock perch setting... as long as you have the shocks, the hardware baggies, the firm *****, you should have everything... sorry i cant take pix for you because mine are already installed.. maybe sum1 else who has them in their closet or something can...
the ID sleeves are required as they are different size from stock.. you might try calling up Koni.... do a search.. i KNOW for a fact that i posted up Konis number before.. but Im not home right now.. so i cant give it to you.. search the archives because I KNOW I posted it.. ill try and look for it right now..
they send out new customers that are under warranty the kit free of charge.. dunno if u bought it used.. .. they sent me out a kit free of charge when i only needed a top nut...

Thanks for the information, i was wondering If all shocks for the Type R is like this for the rear? if i sell these, and get illumina's, are they externally adjustable? Thanks
well, i just emailed koni about my situation. i had emailed them about a week or two ago and they got back to me very quickly, so i should hear back from them tomorrow. i asked them how much they charge for the hardware kits and installation instructions. it should be the same for my shocks even though they are the neuspeed editions. hopefully they wont charge too much. btw, i also recieved the wrong front shocks. the front shocks are for the 89-91 civics and have a shorter shock body and piston length than the ones for my car (94 civic). therefore, i will get less rebound out of my front shocks than i should. now, i have a pair of 89-91 civic front shock forks on the way so that they will fit my car. i am still not sure though whether i will bother trying to install them or just sell them cheap and buy two new neuspeed yellows for the front (another $277.20 from the neuspeed site). what do you guys think? i will also let you know what koni says when they write back. oh yeah, and the number for koni is (859) 586-4100. i'd call now but it is midnight and i dont think their customer service is that good!
let me know what you guys think. thank again.

deviant: they shipped me out the appropriate hardware kit for free..hopefully they'll do the same for you... as for the instructions.. its seriously just a piece of paper folded up..not a full book/manual.. i dont see how they could justify charging you for that.. In my experience.. their customer service was excellent..

Christopher,
The hardware kit for the rear shocks is $13.71/each but one kit will be enough to do both rear shocks. This includes everything except the spring seat and the spring seat ring and the shock itself. You can purchase this direct from us by calling the street tech line at 800-922-2616 then option 5 then 3. We take Visa and Mastercard. The shipping should be under $5 as the kits are not that heavy. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thanks.
i will be ordering this set right away and ordering the brand new neuspped yellows for the front in a few days. i can't wait to get these on. thanks for al the help guys.
