First AutoX questions
Hey guys, me and my dad just signed up to do our first autoX together, Type R and Type S
. I wanted to do one just to get a feel for the car and get ready to do a real track event in the future. I'm just going to have fun and learn more about the cars performance but is there anything you guys think me and my dad should know or consider? My current suspension setup is only H&R Sport Springs on 205-50-15 Yokohama AVS ES 100's. I actually do have 4 brand new OLD STYLE azenis sitting in my attic but i only have stock rims so i dont really want to pay to put on the azenis for only a couple hours and put back on the es100s later for daily. i'm going to have fun and experiment, not looking for the best time..yet haha. so anything i should know?? Or recommendations, anything?

First I would come to the FL ITR Meet.
Then I would just make sure your brakes seem ok, tires have tread and no plugs, fluids are topped off. As for those azenis. If your not going use them in the future I'll gladly pay joo for them.

You "can" AutoX on them. Some tech's will not allow it, some will. If I were you I'd just make sure and mount the Azenis on the stock rims at least for this AutoX. Would suck to get there and them tell you, you can't run because of that.
watch your tire pressure, but i wouldn't worry about modding anything. simple maintenance like brakes and oil changes + other fluids. just make sure to have a good time. if you get lost, have an instructor ride along because they help a bunch.

the es's work alright just did an autox last week on them in the beater.....i had the pressure a little low in the front, so i had a little more rollover than i wanted......

Tire pressure usually depends on weather and driver preference. I run high pressure (38 psi) on my Azenis in the begining and then work my way up or down depending on conditions during the day.
Carolina is hot as hell two months outta the year, the rest, well so-so.

I've been racing ITRs for three seasons and a few things that come to mind are:
1. Use the dead pedal for stability. I find it helps me give quicker steering inputs.
2. Don't be afraid to stomp on the brakes occasionally. Our brakes can handle it, be with that said, brake early before you think you need to. You'll find that you can carry more speed out of the turns. I used to get frustrated and try to see how deep I could brake to make up time. Bad idea. It just throws tosses all your momentum out the window.
3. Don't go to first on a turn around cone (pivot cone). As a beginner it's not worth it.
4. In auto-x you either want to be on the throttle or on the brakes.
Coasting=Lost time
5. Turn your mirror sideways, you'll see more course so you can look ahead.

I wouldnt bother mounting the Azenis for your first autox. The difference in grip will not matter.
As for pressure Id pump the fronts to ~42 and run ~35ish in the back. Check them after each run and bleed back down if necessary.
When you get to the event, try to walk the course as much as possible. Memorize one section at a time while walking until you can play the entire course in your head. As for driving, the most important thing is to look ahead as much as possible. Try to look ACROSS the lot to the next section, not just at the cones right in front of you.
Other than that, DEFINITELY try to ride with a more experienced driver first if possible, most guys dont mind taking passengers on their first or second runs. After that if possible have one ride with you for your runs. You will learn much more this way than doing a whole year w/o any feedback.
Enjoy

Don't brake and turn at the same time
Most important part is have fun. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable, and enjoy yourself. Thats the whole reason you have an itr.
I wish i could afford one, but i can only afford the motor and a crx. I guess it will have to do.
