Default exhaust opinions

I am fed up with this exhaust. It is ear piercing after 5k rpms. It attracks too much attention. I feel like a little kid with his first Honda (ricer) when ever I get on it. This needs to stop. I would like some opinions on what I should do. I was thinking about the MagnaFlow from discount. What are your thoughts. Its going on a b series crx that already has 2-1/4 ran on it. Im open for suggestions.

Ive got a b16a .. 2-1/4" piping,highflow cat,and a tenzo-r touring axleback and its as queit as stock Under 5200rpm anyway..Real deep..Sounds like those new audi 1.8t's at idle..After 5200rpm it sounds like a stock type-r integra..

EDIT--here's a pic..

In my personal opion I have come to like resinators as solutions to the ZOOM;POP'BING/BOOM-SNAP>CRACKLE POP .

I added a resinated tip to my set up whwn it still had the "ricer" sound, and belive it or not it actually made a considerable difference for the gamble.

a magnaflow muffler on a crx isnt going to make it sound good.

your best bet is RSR exmag if you want to spend the $$...

I got a b16a in my rex with a bosal exhaust and custom dual stack. Best sound i've ever heard from a CRX, not to be cocky or anything . Many people tell me its comparable to a G35

Do you have a header? If so, the raspy-ness will be difficult to get rid of... even with a stock style muffler. What I have with my B20B is header->2.25 pipe -> 2 resonators (glasspacks) -> very long (about 24 inches) stock style generic muffler from Napa (cost something like $30, I think). The pipe is mandrel bent, no cat, and the muffler is actually 2.5 inch inlet and outlet for some increased flow.

It sounds pretty quiet when cruising around town and on the highway up to around 3200 rpms. As highway speeds pick up, it starts to get loud inside the car. I think some of that is from my hard-a$$ Hasport motor mounts, though. When I get on the gas, I do get a fair amount of rasp between 2500 and around 3300 rpm. It isn't all that loud, but since there isn't much other noise comming from the exhaust, you really hear it when accelerating...

I would suggest finding a custom exhaust place and having them install a big generic muffler that you provide (or buy from them if they are cheap). I've had those turbo mufflers before, and they aren't much more quiet than the cannister mufflers.

Good luck, and let us know the results of your exhaust change.

Is that really "quiet as stock"? I was thinking about getting a stainless exhaust just because mine looks kinda crappy and rusty. Problem is, most of them are loud or expensive. I like the looks of that Tenzo one. I see some for $150, are they cheaper somewhere?

peace

Ive found that sometimes that crappy buzzy sound is even harder to get rid of depending on the engine. My freind has a crx dx with bolt ons and mpfi swap he uses a tanabe system and it sounds great..quiet throaty and when he opens it up it has the slightest touch of buzz ..its superb. I have a jdm d16a w/ bolt ons in my crx and i have a yonaka system which was thought to be some jdm copy of a tanabe i dunno..its crap tho the muffler is poorly made but does resemble the tanabe. Anyway, my car sounds real buzzy almost like a stupid plain old civic ex with a pep boys muffler I am lookin for new muffler desperatly so if anyone has one let me know anyway my point was that sometimes it really depends on the engine IMO

I think it's kind of funny how hard some people try to get rid of rasp but just can't do it.

I run 2.25" stainless steel piping straight back with one resonator/glasspack, then it turns left and basically "dumps" right infront of the passenger side rear tire.
I have a video in the video thread in this forum, check it out to see what it sounds like.

Loud exhaust doesn't really bother me anymore.

He knew what was going on, he "says" he got his car into 3rd gear and it just didn't go anywhere. His car was a real POS so I kind of believe it.

Anyway I'm not going to thread jack, I have a few more vids so PM me if you want them.

On topic does anybody have some pictures of some of the more popular exhaust systems mounted on a CRX? Blox, A'PEXi, RS*R, GReddy, etc?

I have a 2.5 inch custom bend... with a ghetto muffler... stock cat. I'm thinking about changing mine to a high flow cat, add two 14 inch resonators and get a magnaflow for a muffler. my car is beyond loud...
