what car....? im assuming you both have crx's. if you get a b18b they have a good ammount of torque (compared to the dohc zc) witch you should want considering he has a b20vtec. id go with the b18, you could always turbo it or do a ls/vtec and prolly beat him. the sleeves on a b20/vtec dont tend to last that long unless they are aftermarket becuase that motor wasnt really made to rev to what he prolly revs it to.

but still a zc in your car will prolly make it slower. just save your money and build your bottom end and throw on a vtec head. make sure its done rite

i think his friend has the integra with the b20/vtec, and judging by his username i would go out on a limb and say he has a 4dr civic.
the b18a/b would be your best choice of the two motors. i'd run him(track of course), and see how close you guys are. then add little things till you can take him(ie header/intake/cams/vtec head... list goes on). if his motor is anything but an internally stock b20 w/just a vtec head on it, then you might need a bit of help in the way of a nitrous kit, or a budget turbo setup. hth

theres one in my area NA ls/vtec in a 90' hatch and it beat a tuned WRX STI
Thats what Im doing next year to my "winter beater". The only shitty thing is having to convert to obd-1..however you can work with the obd-1 ecu's easier to get some good tuning done.

As I previously had a stock b18B1 in a 94 CX hatch, I can say it can keep up with the b20/vtec DA. I work with a guy with a 93 DA with B20/vtec, from a 60mph roll (both 3rd gear, both LS trannies IIRC) I kept up to 90 up a slight incline. Mind you I was admiring his thermal exhaust's sound, he pulled 1/2 car length as I visted the rev limiter. My mods were 2.5" Apexi WS2 exhaust + k&n on a 3" diameter short ram, 13lb konigs with 205/40/16s; his were 2.5" thermal, obd1 p72 ecu untuned, short ram, 4-1 DC header, and some bbs-like 17's (I think 205/45/17).
Its against the rules to bench race, but... in a 4dr that would probably be same weight as my hatch was, you might have a chance. I've plugged the numbers (wieght & hp), and my hatch and his teg would be very close in the 1320' in a perfect setting. The world of course ISN'T perfect, so I'll just say that the B18 will romp the ZC, things being equal. Of course, you can have I/H/E for the ZC for the same as the stock B18, which would be very equal. Regardless, the B18 will always feel more powerful than the ZC.

no matter what you aint gonna keep up my friend but go with the ls the torque is really fun with those and its way faster then a zc.........but you still aint gonn a be able to keep up unless you build up
