how do i know when is 3 teeth when i turn the crank case for 3 teeth?

Default how do i know when is 3 teeth when i turn the crank case for 3 teeth?

i'm trying to adjust my tensioner and belt but i want to know how do i know when is 3 teeth when i turn the crank case for 3 teeth? do i turn the crank pully 3 teeth or the cam gear 3 teeth?
94 hatch cx. stock everything. thanks.

3 teeth usually refers to the distance of rotating 3 teeth of the cam gear(s). that's not an accurate way to set your timing though. When you adjust the tensioner, you should manually turn the crank at least 3 full engine rotations before you start it. that gives the tensioner time to tighten up.
