how tell if its a b18c5 haed
can someone tell me how to tell if its a type r head is there casting numbers or markjings . i just picked up the motor ls vtec with a built bottom end and a type r haed dont know if it is or not any help would be appreciated thanks donny
You can look at the date stamp on the front. If its USDM, they only made the ITR for 3 years. Also, if you do a side by side comparison to a B16 head, you will notice the intake and exhaust ports are bigger and smoother.

The ports are no larger, and only the bowls (arched areas immediately before the valve seats) are smoother. It's easier to identify using the intake side as the exhaust side will probably be covered in carbon anyway. The easiest way of telling is by looking for green paint on the intake side right next to the distributor.

I thought there should be a "P73" cast on the cylinder head if im not mistaken.

your mistaken, it uses a stock PR3 B16 head with different parts

The ITR head is green around the distributer mount. But keep in mind that Honda seems to have used a magic marker on this one. So it really doesn't take much time or oil leakage for it to wash away or otherwise disappear.
