Default My 2nd attempt at a down pipe

Ok, I made a 3” out of stainless and it was crap. Luckily it didn’t fit. So I made a new one. I learned it’s a lot easier to work with mild. The problem was the gt28 flange and the very small amount of room I had to work with. I ended up using 2.5” and made a piece to transition between the 3” oval flange and the 2.5” pipe. It worked pretty well. The whole thing turned out ok, but that’s cool because I like doing thing myself, and I learned a lot in the process. thanks for the help with all my questions.

did you jbweld over that top weld? that won't last. jb weld is only rated to a peak of 600 degrees.

other than that it doesn't look all that bad. just keep practicing. my bit of advice is spend ALOT of time on mockup and measuring and make sure that all your peices fit together flush before you try to weld them together. it makes the job 100 times easier.

i'm on oahu. no, its not jb weld. i just grinded the weld down on the top, to make it look a little bit better. i know it looks kinda funky in the pic. i ran beads on the inside of that area as well. wire size is .25 on a lincon weldpack
here's a closer look at one of the beads

here is a bead from a couple months ago with flux core lol

why does it look black where you've grinded the weld?

Looks good though!

I believe, aluminized steel is basically mild steel with a coating which probably explains the color when ground down. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've worked a lot with aluminized steel, and I have never seen it turn out like that. It might just be the pics, or lighting...i dunno.

yeah, its aluminized steel and after i ground it down, i ran a bead on the inside that discolored the piping a bit.

Mikey,
Looks good, and glad to see you finally got a radiator. Now put some fluids in and start that beast up. When are you going to talk Root into that swap.

Thanks dean and its is running. Last night we started cranking it to prime the oil, and oil started pouring out from all over. Come to find out about a month ago we put the head gasket on backwards. Just one minute of dumbass at one in the morning. So today we pulled the head, fixed it and put it back together. It took about 5 hours. Then we primed it and let it run for a heat cycle and shut it down. Now I just need to learn to tune the thing spools pretty quick, I could rev it a bit and the BOV would release with a sweet psh. I know this should probably be in the forced induction forum, but I did a ton of fab to put this DIY together. It would have been much easier to have bought a kit but it has been fun to do this myself and I have learned a lot in the process. Next project tuning.

Yeah, its just a stock obd1 jdm b16, I have another one that I’m going to build, so I can take full advantage of the gt2871’s willingness to push more boost

I wont repost pics, because that is a waste of time, but mike I am going to have to send you a statement of charges for that roll of 100 mph tape you have sitting in your dash. HAHAHAHAHA. Glad to see her put back together, those tires look beefy. When is the tuning challenge going to start? And guys watch what you ask for when asking for more pics. This guy probably has an extra 20 gb hard drive of pics on his turbo b16 install.

DD362 will be in the mail. When is the wideband getting delivered, hopefully it doesnt take as long as your radiator. Of course I care buddy, the honda is the first car listed, while my outtie is the last one. Also parts for the outtie are still being developed so I cant play with it yet.
