New member of jackstands racing
Well I think I am joining jackstands racing... blew most of my 2006 racing budget procuring a new daily driver and a new race ka. I think I have enough to maybe do 10 autocrosses instead of the 30 or so I planned.
Maybe I'll get some spiffy jackstands and dream about racing. Smell the oil, feel the shifter and dream of those cones.

wait. you have three cars. you have GOT to be able to sell one of the non-race kaa kaa's for more then $1500. i can pull off a 30 event season with a few tours and nationals for that kind of coin. you just gotta enjoy pb&j and camping.
anyway, i'm probably a member of jackstands racing too. my race kaa is stored for the winter and the ride for next year is scattered across most of the north east. of course, that car is just sitting on a work bench with nothing on the chassis, so does that count as jackstands?

I've had this $2006 CRX on jackstands by the side of my house for months. Been gathering a plethora of used parts (not pinatas) and now I'm finally starting to put it all together.
If you have the time and the patience, this is the way to go. It may mean waiting months on some stuff, but I have lots of really good parts now going on the car and I am just barely over $1600 for the whole thing.
Ebay, this forum, and the IT.com classifieds are the shiznit.
Examples:
Konis - $300
Koni Coilover sleeves (the good stuff) - $35
400lb eibachs - $27
Header - $25
22mm rear bar - $25
Slightly incomplete Energy bushing set - $16
Momo Wheel - $35
All of this stuff is used, and some of it needed de-rusting and paint, but none of it is junk. The trick is having the patience and checking things daily until you find what you need.
I figure thats a little over $1000 worth of stuff I just listed, and I've dropped less than $500 on it.
This has been a real learning experience. I would have NEVER thought I could have accumulated all this stuff and still have so much room left in the budget.
For the first time ever, I'm WAY under budget on a race car build, and the original budget was $2000. Un friggin believable.
I used to look at some of those cars in the grassroots contests and think "yeah, sure... $2000." But now I'm a believer. It absolutely can be done.
Scott, who admits that he's tired or doing stuff like cleaning control arms and de-rusting suspension bolts, but what the hell... Its gonna be a really nice car.

I had someone at the BK drive-thru comment on how clean my '83 Civic looked and he wanted to know how it managed to stay so nice looking. My response: because I haven't driven it since last November.
My car is on jackstands right now. It would probably drive around under its own power if I let it. I'm keeping it off the cold floor so it doesn't get pissed at me and break again.

The wannabe jackstand racer update...
Car is being either driven or trailered down on Saturday. (The latter would be what a real jackstand racer would do.)
Few little things to fix, new axles, new Hawk HPS pads, a more aggressive alignment. (Pads are almost gone, alignment is already off, axles are ticking.) Probably gotta get rid of the rust, give it a nice bath and wax on a warmer day.
Its probably going to stay stock while I get better acquainted with the car. Doing a Evo School Phase 1 and 2 over summer.

Its like a driving school for autoxers, each phase is around $200. You get to either go to one near you, or you can bring them to you. Usually limited to 10-12 people, so you get lots of one on one time with a national level instructor.

I think Rinde has a couple of these every winter, in conjunction with the standard HPJE. Includes a complete segment on jack and dejack.

Gotta love beauracracy...
AAA or PennDot don't give us plates until they physically see the car which is hard to do since the car doesn't have plates and can't be driven on the streets. MDDot doesn't do one way plates. So its either, get temporary plates from MD or rent a truck and trailer and have the car towed here unless AAA is nice enough to tow it here.

i just stick a plate on from one of my other cars (or old plates) and drive up there.
it is a bunch of BS though.</TD></TR></TABLE>
We would, but its that 1% chance something happens and the drama that follows. Its not like 10 miles away, its a good 90 miles each way.
AAA says they can't tow since the car doesn't have plates. Hello rental company... we need a truck and trailer.

Don't you have a set amount of time to get a new car plated etc after the purchase? Also I believe that for like 2 or 3 days your insurance company will cover a new car purchase with a bill of sale.
