I was driving down the highway the other day and it just shut off. When i got it off of the next exit all it would do is turn over and backfire.....I checked the timmeing and it was good, its getting fuel, and spark......Its a 91 civic hatchback DX DPFI ........What else could i check for so i dont have to take it somewhere....

 

Sounds like something in the distributor.

 

Check to make sure the timing belt didnt skip any teeth or break.

Well i checked the belt and its fine i re timed it all and it still is doing it.......Should i just get a different dizzy and try that or is there something specific in the dizz i should check....

sounds like your igniter.

get your hands on a service manual (search google or goto autozone and buy one) and a multi-meter and ohm out the coil. if the coil is good replace the igniter.
