Default 98' Civic LX exhaust problem... Need Help!

Ok guys, my buddy has a 98' LX and the manifold is cracked. He wants to replace it with a header, but, the dilema is the cat is built onto the manifold. Can he use a regular header with a lower pipe and connect the cat under the car to the exhaust? Its all stock right now other than an AEM short ram. Need info, please!

you can replace the manifold with a regular d series header, but you'll need the b pipe and cat off an ex. unless you connect the header directly to the stock b pipe, direct bolt on. but you didn't hear that from me
