Anyone have any memory of this old ITA Honda from the early '90's?
I'm trying to find out a little more about the early history of my current racecar, an '87 CRX Si that is being put back together for ITB.
The car was built from best of my knowledge in 1992 to race in ITA. At that time it had just become elidgable for SCCA IT competition having just turned 5 years old. I don't know who built the car, and the driver's name in the logbook is difficult to make out but it appears to be " P Cherley" who drove it in the "Turkey Trot" even held by the Central Florida Region SCCA on 11/28/92.
After that it wound up in the hands of a Mr. Fred Brett who took it to the Sebring drivers school in July 1993, and then continued to race the car through Sept of 1996, finishing the year with the ARRC at Road Atlanta. Here are a couple of pictures from that early period, courtesy of the 1st logbook....

I bought the car from a guy in Texas who bought it from Roger Fuggett in Atlanta a year and a half ago or so. This is the way it looked when I bought the car....

Anyone remember this car from Florida or the Atlanta or Buccaneer regions?
Thanks
Richard

Raceworks never owned the car.
I have no idea who "P Cherley" could be. Tom F. might know, so hit him up at the drivers school.
IIRC Fred sold it to Fugett when he built his 2nd gen ITA Integra. Fred's Integra was the first I had ever seen, and did pretty well in the golden age of the 88 CRX Si.
I saw Fugett race the car a couple of times at Road Atlanta, but by the late 90s that car was dogmeat in ITA, so it never really did all that well.
The odd current paint job is because Fugett was sponsored by a headhunter who's name I now can't remember. Might have been headhunter.com or careerbuilder.com. Anyway, those are that sponsors logo colors That rectangle on the hood used to contain said logo.
I haven't seen the car in a few years, until now.

Yes, I remember when Fuggett had it for sale, before the guy I bought it from picked it up, it had "CareerBuilder.com" logos on the hood and each rear quater above the rear wheels. Company colors. Pretty damned ugly, although I apparently have made it uglier.

And on the 12th day the racer gods created Maaco.
You just can't do it red, white, or yellow. They have been done to friggin death.
I vote for Silver and Black. With a skull and crossbones on the hood.
That fits Floyd perfectly.

How much does a Maaco job cost these days? I'm considering a respray with vinyl graphics now that I have time to burn.
Wow I remember this car from Sebring regional races my dad raced in during the 1990s. I used to crew for my dad's GT3 RX-3 but would sit around and watch the IT enduro all afternoon before his group would race on Sundays. I don't know a thing about the car, other than the fact that it was at tons of CFR regional races. Looks like a fun little car though.

i see special (out here anyways) for 400 or less often. Only thing is, vinyl isn't super cheap, but easier to repiar then paint sometimes

Vinyl isn't cheap, but it's a lot easier to change and repair since I don't want to invest in my own paint booth.
i think johnson has them done for about $300 to paint everything (and they do paint everything you don't mask, including exhaust tips).
it's really not bad except for the overspray.

Nub's Graphix in Walden, NY can help you with that. Nub went crazy with the airbrush, guess thats what I get for letting them do what ever they want!

Ah, but it has to be red! At least part of it, because it's going to be just like the old H5 Integra:

It's kinda my "signature" look. I have thought about that same paint scheme but substituting silver for red. Black, white and silver..... a possibility.......
But if I put the skull and crossbones on it then I have to dress up like a pirate. And have a fake parrot attached to the shoulder of the race seat. And do my hair like this:

Interesting, I was just thinking about the paint scheme thing the other day. What hasn't been done? Orange has been done. Pink (sadly) has been done. John Deere green has been done. Flat black has been done.
Battleship grey? Nah, that's on the interior of half the race cars I see nowadays.
Bass boat metallic red? That might be something...
Is there such a thing as chrome paint? Not silver, chrome. Highly reflective chrome.
--Karl, envisioning a chrome ITC 914...now *that* would be doing something different...

IIRC Blake's old 914 was painted like a German flag (not a **** flag, a german one) and it looked pretty damned good.
If you saw Mike Cottrel's Spec Miata at the ARRC, you would understand fully that pretty much everything has now been done.
BTW - Battleship Gray -> Colin Botha.

Yes, there is chrome paint. It's very expensive, and probably would look terrible on something that wasn't 100% straight.
Just don't paint it the color of the Schwan's car in NASCAR, and everything will be good.

OK, perhaps the chrome paint thing is somewhat less than ideal on an IT car. Good point Matt.

Also problematic. Much like the usual red, green and white Alfas, painting a car in the colors of it's country of origin has been done to death. Of course, apparently pretty much everything has been done to death.

Yeah unfortunately I was standing right next to Bowie when he got whacked in the 10A/10B complex. Apparently he still hurts. And yes, that car existed as proof that everything has been done.

Kind of. His as I recall is glossy. I'm talking flat grey. With big tall block-lettered numbers for the classification. Come to think of it...perfect for a 2800lb 190E 2.3-16.
Only...the hot rod guys have been doing this for decades. Think it rhymes with "primer." Crap.

You had to go and do that didn't you.
Few people in this world know of my rather bizarre affliction for 1970s full-size station wagons. I once hunted after 1995-ish Buick Roadmasters and 1990-ish Jeep Grand Wagoneers as tow vehicle options.
But much like someone on a 12 step program, I recognize these things as largely a bad idea, I (so far) hold off. But the 914 and the 190E really sing to me.
There's a 190 on eBay that needs motor work for a cool thousand dollars right now...now *there* is a good ITS race car candidate. I just shudder to think what it costs to have someone competent go through not only a Mercedes engine, an exotic one with a Cosworth head on it...
