Cold Starting..can i minamize wear?
Hey Honda-tech,
I was in the motorcycle forum a few days ago and was reminded that cold starts put the most wear and tear on your engine.
I live in Colorado now and it was 16 degrees this morning!!!! I was wondering if this matters for our car engines...my car isnt garaged either
.
I dont see why it wouldnt and if it does is there anything i can do to minamize the wear on the motor when i start it in the morning...?
Thanks in advance.

yea...there always is.....is there a pump that turns on right before i turn the motor?
Would it help to leave the car on that self diagnostic stage for a minute?

The oil pump is mechanical: it only turns when the motor turns. An Accusump can store oil under pressure until you open a valve to let it into the motor, flooding the bearings and stuff with oil before you start it. Helps cut down on startup wear a bit. Or you could install a dry sump and an electric oil pump, but that's way more money than it's worth. Thinner oil will move around quicker when cold, as would preheating the oil before starting the car.
Get a block heater for it. I don't know if you can get one or if the car comes with one, but to be honest, my old *** Civic gets 5w30 oil, and I don't worry about the startup noise...it's a 15 year old engine with 300XXXkms on it, if it dies, I'll pay 150$ and get a new one.
5w-30 inste of 10w-30 if thats what you use
you could also put a fuel pump cut switch and turn it off and let the motor turn over a few times before turning on the fuel pump so it will start, less stress on the dry bearings, good anti-thieft measure too
