Default B series header/crossmember fitment thread what works & what doesnt

Sooner than later I plan to upgrade my dented ol DC header to something with a 2.5 inch collector for some added hp. I am quite familiar with the fitment problems we have due to the OEM crossmember and large collector header etc. A search of "header" in the CRX/EF Civic forum returns very few results with limited info about what does and doesnt fit with "X" brand header or "Y" brand crossmember. I figured the info that is gathered here can help H-T members from buying a header and crossmember that have clearance issues. BTW if this thread ends up being a bad idea Mods feel free to delete it. Vital info would include, mount kit used, engine, header, radiator, and crossmember(oem or other). Any other suggestions are welcome. Hopefully this thread will help us out.

My info & pics
B16a
OEM radiator
ol skool Hasport mounts
plenty of ground clearance
DC 4-1 with regular collector
OEM crossmember notched very slightly to aid in clearance. No problems.

Some pics

Truthfully, I think every aftermarket cross member fits with larger then usually header. Wouldn't bother naming what engine mounts everyone is running because all the mounts on the market all position the engines is basically the same spot.

mine AN-R mounts
My Megan 2 pc. 4-2-1 needed trimming of the crossmember. Right where the 2 pices of the header joined, it hit the crossmember, hung low as well

My 2nd header (Airmass) fit perfect, snugged the motor, cleared the crossmember more and never scraped. The car was lowered 2.5 in the front

The Megan is now on another CRX w/ Hasport race mounts, he has plenty of crossmsmber clearance with no cutting, but the header hangs hella low, scrapes all the time, he is lowered about 2.75"

not true, different mounts will give you more front to back or more up and down clearance, from what I've seen comparing 32 CRX's side by side, same motors, different mounts. Needless to say, mine had the worst header clearance, the motor sat further forward, but I had plenty of firewall clearance

Im sure that there are several ppl that can disagree on this. Certain crossmembers allow more clearance than others, hence this thread. Ive seen a few members with clearance issues with aftermarket crossmembers and a big header.

get a fullrace crossmember and you can fit whatever you want .

I had to notch my stock crossmembe to clear my JDM ITR 4-1 header. Heres some pics of the crossmember after i was done with it...

I haven't seen anyone with clearance problems who had a aftermarket cross member, but hopefully they will chime in. Now, if they are running some crazy tubular turbo manifold that is a different story, but we are discussing NA

JimFab doesnt fit with K20a, and im sure a few headers wouldnt clear it. Also the Innovative Mounts crossmember for the EG radiator doesnt fit with JDM ITR 4-1 header.

I wanted to bring this topic back from the dead since there still isnt much header clearance info(that I could find). Also maybe some pics of ground clearance also to help out those looking for a bigger header w/out having to make susp adjustments etc. Just an idea.

all i know is that the stock b16 headers barely fit and i tried putting my bros dc 4 into 1 header and there was no way in hell it would fit unless i took out about half of my crossmember. so 4 into 1's are totally out of the question.

89 crx hf
b16
sparks racing mounts
edt racing traction bar
megan racing 4 into 1 header 2.5" collector

i have zero clearance, the header fits but barley. you can slide a piece of paper between the header and traction bar and thats it

Civic hatch

B16

Stock crossmember (Though I have since upgraded to Jim-fab)

Fujitsubo 1st generation B16 header

TONS of space (as long as you don't have the need for an AC fan)

Thats bad news! Hopefully my Z-10 will clear my k swap. It cleared my Hasport b16 jdm itr 4-1 with ease. There might be a good deal to be had on a Z-10 soon.
