SAD SAD DAY, for 97 ITR #362
i work at a car dealership, which means, yes sadly...i cannot park on the actual dealership lot, i have to park across the street. so, i find out, the rain gutter got clogged with leaves, which means...semi-flood. guess which car was in the deepest part? that's right, '97 integra type r #362. so, i didn't think much of it, it wasn't that deep, here are the pictures of it. that happened on friday, car drove fine on the way home. car started acting weird saturday, and then sunday, my car wouldn't start...so i check for spark, got it...check for fuel, got it....so i check fuses, and they as well, are all fine...then last i check the ecu...*wimper* WHOLE passenger side floorboard...soaked...just wet like crazy...reach up, the wetness goes all the way up to the ecu...so im GUESSING that the water messed up my ecu. but i wonder why it took 2 days for it to screw up? do u guys have any ideas, and are there any fellow ITR owners in the bay area, that might be willing to meet this weekend and help me out? thanks!

Sorry dude, I can't imagine. I definitely wouldn't be happy..

I never knew that the 97's went up to #362. I think that's the highest I've seen yet.
I have no idea who you are, but I have my stock 97 ECU just hanging around. If you wanted to do some kind of colateral exchange, I'll let you use it for a short period of time so you can drive your car and get it sorted out. Let me know.

yeah, that's the thing...it didn't look too bad in person either, that's why i didn't think anything of it...and it drove fine after, just the next 2 days after that it kept getting worse and worse, until it just wouldn't start....
haleiwa-brando: really...thanks, hrmmm we'll have to talk, i might be able to use my friend's extra gsr ecu just to drive it home, then hopefully my insurance will cover it, but i'll keep you in mind, again, thanks for the help!

i was at my girlfriend's grandparents house when the car started to act up, so tools were limited, but they helped as much as possible...so no i didn't take the ecu out of the car or take the cover off, but im going back there this weekend with my tools, and hopefully...i can get something hapenin...i hope its not something dumb/stupid that i overlooked, haha newayz, thanks for all the ppl that have been helping out...for those that have offered to help, where are you located, because i would like to meet up or be interested in buying/borrowing parts, if at all possible, thanks
some of the plugs probably got corroded, in my old 5lug b18c5 ek hatchback i use to take the computer out at night, one of the nights it must have been raining to get a drop or two of water in the ecu plugs and a couple weeks later my car was acting up/not firering randomly so my car would brake down and it would run and brake down.....
so my advice is first check where the plugs go to see if there is any corrosion, clean it off with some thin sand paper if there is, you might want to pop the ecu cover to see if anything else is corroded, i just cleaned it off in my ecu,
good luck with her

The problem with electronics and liquid only apply once the electronic components are energized. When you assemble a pcb and its components, you generally use rubbing alcohol/toothbrush to clean of the flux/solder residue, then you rinse with water. You have to make sure that the pcb is thoroughly dry before you test or use it (apply power), though.
Each consecutive time you started the car could have led to a fried component in the ECU. It probably became worse each time and ultimately the car wouldn't run. I'd say the connections probably aren't corroded, but who knows. Maybe you should check them out when you replace the ECU and hit them up with some WD40.
As a rule of thumb, if you drop anything electronic into water you should remove the batteries and let it dry completely before you apply power. Avoid the urge to test it out while it's still wet.
Good luck with the ITR

Take the ECU out, open the cover, and clean it out real good with electrical contact cleaner and some q-tips.
I flooded my standalone once and this is how I fixed it.
Water can bring in so many deposits, which will short circuits.

If the ecu is still wet, pull it from the car and bring it inside... put it in front of a fan and let it dry overnight... I had a p28 that the exact same thing happened to... drove home sounding like a wrx... thought i was a goner. Let it dry and the next day it was 100%.
edit: looks like i should read that alot of people posted similar stuff.... give them a try.
