Default Fuel light

Is there any way to test the fuel light? I've never seen mine come on even when it's on empty. I don't think it comes on when I turn the car on either. Any suggestions?

Mine turns on when I'm on E or just past it.

Mine comes on right when it's on E. I've driven like 10 miles with the light on. I was too scared to push it any further.

I think the light comes on with like 3 gallons left in the tank.

mine low fuel light comes on when the needle is right around "E" mark... i've went as far as 50 miles w/ it constantly lit up on "E" .. this was of course driving on highway w/ minimal stop and go and it went really empty (on I5 going from so cal to nor cal)...

No. It happens while you're driving.

Correct. Does NOT turn on during the initial diagnostic phase.

Ok, well I have never seen it on the entire time I've owned the car. And I don't think it comes on at 3 gallons. It only take about $10 to fill mine up completly and that's when gas was about $1.03. And I have taken it all the way to the last fuel bar, and the light has yet to come on. I've never run out of gas, but I would like to see when I get that empty.

Yeah maybe, but I can't take the chance of it not working and me running out of gas on the way to or from work. Maybe I'll go out and drive around in circles in a local parking lot. Either the light comes on, or my car dies, which ever comes first.

why not keep a gallon of gas in the boot and some day your off work and the needles near empty drive around and see what happens. mine comes on just as the needle is almost at the E mark, but i think the tank still has about 2 gallons in at at that stage, i once drove 45 miles with it on!

it comes on when your driving and when it senses your low on fuel.. sometimes being on a hill/incline when your low can trick it into thinkin its lower than it is and make it come on.. then back off when your on more level ground... i dunno for you two whose low fuel lights arent coming on.. either the bulb blew out, or maybe you guys arent taking it as low as you think/inaccurate guage.. or some kind of sensor malfunction i really dont kno.. mine has been working from day one.. so i havent needed to fix it....

just do it like this, drive it till it's around the E, then fill the tank up, see how many gallons u put in. I think our tanks hold 13.2 gal, so if it's near being empty then it should have come one. Otherwise, next time, let it go a litte further, just as long as u get a good idea to to how much u have in the tank. Most likely the bulb isn't burnt out or anything, just u never get it near enough Empty. Must not be a broke college student like me.

i burned 11.2 gal i think for 305 miles i believe, and the needle past that lil bar. I really want to drive till the fuel light lighted up, but didnt want to risk it. No experiments is wroth stranded on the road!

Mine comes on when theres about 3 gallons left. I think its more like 2.5 gallons. Check your user manual and it should tell you how much you tank holds. then when the needle is at the bar fill up the tank and see how many gallons it took. So the math and youll see how big your reserve tank is.
