My low fuel warning light doesn't come on anymore. Not when it's way low on fuel and not at start-up with the other indicator lights. The bulb didn't look burned out but I replaced it anyway and it still doesn't come on at start-up. If the sensor in the tank is bad (or some other problem) then should the warning light come on at start-up anyway? The fuel gauge works but I would like to figure out the light issue. Thanks.

Did you run out of gas and the light never came on....If you jump the wires at the fuel pump does the light come on?

In the past the light had come on when it was very low on gas. It has never completely run out of gas so I can't say that the light never came on with it out of gas, but it has since been very low with the light not coming on.

I have not tried any of the tests in the attachment but I will, and may need some additional direction.

Does the indicator light not coming on at start-up mean anything? It has been so long that I don't remember if it used to come on at start-up.

I did steps 5-8 to jump the wires and the low fuel light did not come on. Per the instructions, the ignition was off. What now?

Even the service manual has mistakes in it......when you jump the pins, the key needs to be in the "on" position.

If memory serves me, the low fuel light is not part of the "bulb check" that happens when the key is first turned to "on".

OK, I did the wire jumping with the addition of field modified instructions:

8a. Turn ignition switch to On (not Start).
8b. Check to see if light is on.
8c. Turn ignition switch to Off.

and the light came on. The instructions say that the fuel gauge sending unit needs to be replaced. The fuel gauge works fine, it's the low fuel part that doesn't work. Either way, how do I replace the fuel gauge sending unit?

It is part of the pump - I wouldn't worry about it just for the light.

There is the part to the left where you enpty the tank and add back a small amount?

I haven't drained the tank yet, but I can try that. In step 3 there is the part about removing the fuel return line from the fuel pressure regulator. Where do I find the fuel return line and pressure regulator?

Might be more than it is worth to drain the tank and test.

I'd need to know if this is a four or six cyl engine before I could post a pic of the location.

If you are going to keep the car for any amount of time and plan on doing repairs yourself, I'd suggest getting a good service manual for the car. For ~$22 you can get a service manual from: automanualsource "dot" com

If you own a 6th gen accord with a working low fuel light then you are one of the lucky few. Join the club for a non working light.

I think it is probably more trouble than it is worth to drain the tank when the problem is almost certainly a bad fuel gauge sending unit. Besides the cost of a new unit, it doesn't look too difficult based on the video at
. If I replace the fuel gauge sending unit, should I also replace anything else while I have everything taken apart (e.g., filter)?

Thanks for the tip on where to get a manual. I've tried manuals in the past that were for a range of model years and somehow the instructions and diagrams didn't match what I owned, but I may give them a try.

Well for the 6th gen's it you are going to pull the pump....be glad you don't have to drop the tank. So to get to just the sending unit isn't that bad.

Again, we are talking about a simple light. To me, not worth the effort. When the tank gets low, fill it. If you do some simple MPG calc's (I do it everytime I fill any of mine) you will know about how many miles you can go....last, the gas in the tank actually helps cool the pump so if you happen to keep it a "little" on the full side the pump will last longer.
