Default Buying A Suit. Need Sizing Advice.

I'm buying my first racing suit and need a little sizing advice. I am going to get the Sparco 5 ( http://www.sparcousa.com/pracewear_suits.asp?id=8 ).

I am 6'3", 200lbs with a 36" waist. According to the Sparco sizing chart, my height and weight puts me into an XL, but I am worried about the waist being huge and just swimming in the thing.

Any recommendations? Anybody have a similar issue and can share what they did?

Bigger is better than snug. Tight suits look more pimpin' but the big suit has its advantages.

You'll be more comfortable with a little room, and the air space between you and the nomex improves the fire performance a little.

You are very similar size to me, and a 62 fits me great. Just enough extra room to be comfy.

I couldnt afford the pimpy sparco though, and ended up buying a XL Gforce 545. (yes the waist is huge, but a L is too tight in the shoulders and short in the arms)

I had a budget choice of Sparco Fashion 5 or a GForce 545. Tried on both and I picked the Gforce in XL as well.

What ever size you think you are, get two sizes up. Ask C-speed about that one...lol

If it is too big in the waist, buy some nomex thread and take it to your local alterations place. That's what I did. Since all the off-the-shelf suits are made for men, when I bought for my height, the waist was about 2x too big. Alteration fixed that problem.

i'd look at the OMP suits, i can't remember which one i have, but i remember looking at the Sparco 5 when i was shopping. the OMP stuff comes in much more "tailored" sizes than just M,L,XL,XXL. i'm exactly your size (6'2'' 203lbs with 34'' waist) and my OMP (i think it's called a Fashion; don't laugh) is fantastic.

if i feel really helpful i'll run out to the truck, get my suit, and check the size.

:sigh: i still haven't unpacked from the oct 4th race.

Agreed. I bought my Sparco a few years ago, and I find myself somewhat less svelte now than I was then. At times I've had a hard time zipping the stupid thing up.

Buy big.

I am convinced they shrink over the winters.

Maybe the bathroom scale calibration isn't wrong afterall.
