Default Head Unit Screwed up

I just wanna make sure before I go buy another cd player, that I really did screw up my head unit. I left my lights on yesterday like an idiot and the car died. So I got my friend to jump me and when I started the car is sounded funny like it barely just barely had enough juice from even the other cars battery to start up then I look down and my head unit is just displaying random lines and so I waited a little while for the cars battery to charge up then I turned off the car and turned it back on and the head unit still was just displaying random lines and wouldn't make any sound out of the speakers or eject the cd inside it. So then I unplugged the negative battery cable, waited a minute then plugged it back up and the head unit still just had random lines and wouldn't play anything. I just wanted to know if this sounds like it shorted out and I will need to get a new head unit and jack up the old cd player for the cd inside it, or if I just blew a fuse and can replace it and have everything back to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated as some new subs are comin in the mail today and I won't have anything to hook them up to if I don't have my head unit working.

some head units have a reset button you can push with a pen, check to see if yours has one and try resetting it that way

its a really shitty durabrand one so its not gonna bother me to get another one like it untill I get more funds near xmas for a nice alpine. I'll check to see if it has a reset button though I figured unhooking it from the battery would reset it though.

Have you checked the constant power fuse, you did not give a MMY of car, I assume it's a Honda/Acura, and if the HU is connected to the oem radio harness, the constant power, [back up power] fuse is more then likely the 7.5A one in the under hood fuse box, unless there is a smaller one on the HU or it's constant power wire, [yellow]. 94

its a 1990 honda civic hatchback and there is a fuse in both the red power wire and the yellow memory wire on the head units wire harness. I asked a friend if it could be the fuse but he said that if the fuse blew that the whole head unit wouldn't turn on.

No, if only one of the fuses is blown, some things on the HU may still work, it depends on were they get there power, on a lot of HUs the eject will still work if there is no power on the red acc., on others everything will work but no sound if the constant power fuse, [yellow] is blown.
You need to make sure that both the fuses on the red and yellow lines are good and the acc. and constant, [back up] power oem fuses are good. 94

it sounds like the HU is bad, especially if it is a durabrand

Yeah I found the reset and it works just like it used to, which isn't that great but I got the cd player for free and it beats the hell outta listening to the radio. Thanks much for pointing that out.
