Default vtec problem

my car isnt hitting vtec ... ? runs fine otherwise
i drive a 00 em1, so its a b16

i checked the oil, its a little low and blackish
would an oil change fix the problem ?

i searched, there was a lot of different possibilities
but i just want to know if just oil could be the problem

If the oil is a little low and blackish then that is where I would start as it seems an oil change might benefit you in other ways than trying to get your vtec to work as well.

It cant hurt is what Im trying to say

no, i cant hear it
its weird, it cracks in the upper gears, like 3rd
doesnt in 1st and 2nd

just noticed my coolant is really low too
under the minimum line
that wouldnt affect vtec engagement tho right ?
what about spark plugs/wires ? would that affect it ?

ugh, where should i go to check this out ?
honda dealership ? theres no shops around that knows anything about hondas except like 45min-1hour away

it wouldn't be the black oil that effects your vtec...but like someone said earlier...it doesn't hurt to change it. are you getting any check engine lights? is your engine at the correct temp. when you were doing these test for vtec? where exactly is your oil level...you aren't at like 1 quart right?

flush coolant and fill to correct level. change oil, make sure engine is at operating temp. then let us know.

Its not going to pop as loud in 1st/2nd gear becuase of the tight gear ratio. If you hear the transition in 3rd/4th/5th gear then theres nothing wrong.
