car starts then dies! need help
i have a 92 civic dx hatch n i swapped in a 93 b18a and everything is fine except for wen i start it it starts right up then dies. If i hold the gas and rev it a lil to like 4k for bout 15 seconds n let go it idles perfectly after that. What would cause this? i thought it could be the gas thats in there because the car was parked for 5 months b4 the swap or it could be because i took of the dashpot thing that the 90-93 integras have on the throttle but it got lost so i cant put it bak and finnd out. if anyone can help please let me know what it could be?
update ok well i switchted the plugs on the map sensor frum the firewall to the tb n now it starts with no cel, but now if i tap the gas quickly the car studders n dies, and if i slowly start pressing the gas i cud go all they way 2 redline as long as i dont do it 2 fast. Any one have any ideas?

Your cam timing might be off a bit (skipped a tooth or something)
I had a similar problem a while a go right after changing my timing belt.
One easy way to check is if the throttle response is a bit sluggish.

I had the exact same problem on my car after i cleaned the IAVC.
Then I opened the radiator cap for about a min, closed it and she started with no problem. Guess u need to bleed the system. hope it helps

when you hold the gas pedal you're affecting air and fuel... if it was the main relay the car would just die... my car dies the same way when it's very low on gas and pump can't keep the pressure up...so make sure you got enough gas.... if that's not it, i would check the fuel filter and injectors... make sure they're clean.... then i would check vacuum... if the motor isn't getting enough air to breathe, it will die especially when cold... is the coolant bypassed? if so, and you live in a cold area, that's most likely your problem... the IACV freezes up in cold weather not allowing air to get in and keep the motor RPMs high
mine did this to i had to with untill my cel light comes on and let off the gas and then perfect but i think it was my ecu untill my p28 came in it started just fine
sorry 2 bring it back from the dead but i tried everything in this thread so far and nothing seems to help, any other ideas as to what it could be causing this?
This problem happens all the time... search some, you should find lots of threads to keep you busy... it's always something different....

2000civicsi quoted the above....could it be that if im low on coolant that would do it?
