06 Civic LX Auto planning on changing all fluids to SYNTHETICS!
Hello,
I purchased a new Civic and am considering changing the engine oil, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid to synthetics. I am considering Royal Purple motor oil due to the additive “Synerlec”. My cousin use to race a Funny car back in the 80’s and then again in the early 90's (Flash Gordon) and highly recommends this oil due to this additive since he used a formulation of this in his Hemi engine. They also make a 5W20, so I would have the factory recommended viscosity. Lastly, according to an article I read in 11/05 issue of Modified Mag this oil is supposed to micro-polish bearings (though I am unsure on how this task is accomplished).
I currently have 1200 miles on this vehicle. I changed the oil (5w20 Castrol GTX – purchased a case on sale for $18 - $5 rebate as a gas station gift card = $13) at 400 miles and at 1100 miles. I plan to change the oil one more time at say 1600 miles to use up the remaining dino oil. Then at 2000 miles change the oil to a synthetic.
As far as the transmission fluid and power steering fluid go, I have not looked into whether or not a company manufactures a compatible synthetic product for these fluids. Does anyone know if the Honda fluids are synthetic, semi-synthetic, or dino?
Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated in this matter?
synthetic won't do **** to your 140hp motor. don't expect to gain 20 or 30 mad horsepowerzzz just by doing so...
not sure about hondas but for acuras if you read the instruction manual it tells you to leave the factory brand new oil in there for atleast 5000 miles...
because it is a special "break-in" oil mix....
now if it is also true for hondas, then by taking the special "break-in" oil out of your civic at 400Miles..you've basically ruined your motor break-in.... you should've kept the break-in oil in there for a bit longer.

change with honda 5w-20 motor oil for your first 2 oil changes.
as for auto tranny fluid: honda fluid as well. from what i read on 7thgencivic.com, Honda uses addicitives to prevent wear on your tranny case. same goes for motor oil.
however, royal purple and all that good stuff is great, but your civic is not a performance/race vehicle.
if anything, id only switch up the motor oil to fully syn. like mobil 1 after the first 2 oil changes with honda's 5w-20.

I wasn't realy expecting any more performance by changing over to synthetic lubricants, just trying to add to the over all longevity of the vehicle.
I purchased this vehicle for the following reasons:
Gas Mileage
Longevity
Better than big 3 resale value (if and when I decide to sell the car in 3 or 4 years at least I can be some what sure that I can do so and not loose all my money)
