hairline crack on block by oil squirters? has anyone seen this before?
rebuilding the motor and noticed some hairline cracks. i have 4 going through the holes where the oil squirters bolt in. anyone see this before?
thats all from the casting of the block. you should be good to go.
just to double check, cut a small bit off the top of the "crack". im sure tis just flash or a cosmetic defect.

Looks like flash to me too. it is somewhat tricky to tell the difference. The first time you see it its like, holy crap my block is shot! But once you see some cracks vs. flash you will be able to readily tell the difference between the two.

Take a fine grit sandpaper and sand it flush by moving across (90 degrees to the line). If it disappears, it's just a casting flash. Don't sand in line with it or you'll blend a crack in if it's really a crack. It is common for these blocks have casting marks in that area.
ok but what is this flash your all talking about? just another word for small cracks in words of the honda-techers?

Its a casting mark from when the block gets cast. Not a crack.

those are casting flaws, not cracks
If it would be a crack it would go all the way up to the neck.
