Im going to be installing my Walbro 255 into my 88 crx si tomorrow. I really have no idea how to do this. ive replaced my fuel tank before but never have done anything to the pump nor do I know what Im looking at. Is there a full pictorial guide somewhere?

Is it the same as a stock crx fuel pump change?

Like this kit I got has some weird wierd rubber piece, buncha other connectors and **** that i jsut dont get

Can someone explain or point me in the right direction?

my 190 pump installed very simliar to stock.

I did not use the provided screw-type hose clamps and short hose though.
I opted to reuse the original Honda hardware -- it seemed to work well.

The rubber isolator mount keeps the pump in position on the fixture,
and you must use the Walboro one.

As far as wiring, I use the original wiring plastic covers and ring terminals.
If you don't use the covers, the +12V wire will be exposed and should
anything go wrong could touch the other metal components inside the
gasoline. pretty frightening possibility.

I soldered on the new wires to the original ring terminals. At the end,
it was a very OEM spec install.

i do know with those walbro's you won't be able to go less then a 1/4 tank since the pump is shorter then an oem one....just wanted to let you know before your in the middle of no where and run out of gas when it says you still have some in there.

 

HUH? The walbro is shorter but the pump is supposed to be mounted on the bottom of the apparatus in the same position as the stock pump. The only way the pump would not pick up fuel when under a 1/4 tank or so is if the pick up assembly/adaptor wasn't installed correctly or is the wrong one. The previous owner of my car did it. The pick up was angled the wrong way which caused severe fuel starvation especially when turning right. Of course I didn't find out about it until it went bad and I installed my Walbro 190. If you have the correct install kit, it should come with extra hose, grommet, and prefilter/adaptor specifically for your car.

 

I would imagine it will stay the same when you run outta fuel

The pickups for the stock pump and Walbro w/ EF installation kit are both the same length. I'm guessing that some people may have installed the wrong installation kit or forgot to install the tiny white adapter in the installation kit and the pickup was not the same as stock height (or depth).

 

Whats this little white adapter your talking about and what does it do

I go well under a 1/4 tank before i fill up and have had no problems with my walbro pump

if you got the correct installation kit it should have two very tiny washers, two rings, the pickup/filter, and a white adapter. That white adapter goes on the end of your Walbro fuel pump, then the pickup goes onto the white adapter. That white adapter is basically an extension that puts the pickup in the correct orientation and depth when you install it. For the two rings I believe I used then on the white adapter and pickup and I took the two tiny washers and forced them with a set of needle nose pliers onto the tiny pegs on the bottom of the pump and on the bottom of the white adapter.

EDIT: here is a pic of the installation kit. The white adapter is that thing on the top right underneath the wiring harness. There is one metal ring beneath it, and the other metal ring is already on the pickup. The pickup is in the package to the lefet of the instructions, and on the top right corner of the package you can see the two tiny washers.

If you look at the pickup in the package you'll see a hole on the left of that plastic fitting. Now look at the right side of the white adapter and you'll see a peg. That peg goes into the hole in the pickup. The other side of hte white adapter does into the fuel pump. You'll probably want to put the white adapter on the pump first, then put a smalel washer on the tiny peg on the fuel pump. Then you put the rubber cushion and pickup onto the white adapter. I forget whch order the cushion and pickup go, so just fiddle with it a little.

Where did you purchase it from? I hate having to buy over the net.

 

its common sense how the adapters and everything come together. If you dont put them on, you cant get the pump in the tank anyways. I tried. I have also had no problems with just cutting and splicing the wires with the connectors they provided. It was late and rainy when I installed mine and I didnt care about soldering the wires. I was worried that if the tank got low, the electricity would spark the fumes, but I have had no problems. I dont think it can fume if its under presure (not vented).

hey guy i installed a 255 walboro in my 91 hatch with fully built gsr
drop the tank from the back closest to the bumper
leave the top alone u will not need to touch end of tank closest to front end
there is a fuel line on the left side near the tire that is welded to a bracket touching the chasis
u will need to cut it off to rotate the full pump as u pull it from the tank
much easier to snip the brakcet then fuss with the removal of the pump
this wont harm anything
then remove pump and install new one
easy as one two three
