Default hanging pedals vs floor mounted pedals

it seems like most super cars and genuine race cars such as lemans cars use the pedals that are floor mounted.

is there any benefit to these types of pedals versus the hanging pedals that come in civics etc?

is it just a style thing?

There are actually reasons why most supercars use a floor mounted pedal instead of a hanging pedal.

Hanging pedals make throttle cable and clutch cable routing hard for Mid or Rear engine vehicles. This is actually easier and cheaper on a production and design level to manufacture the vehicles pedals with them mounted on the floor.

Also, with floor mounted pedals, you are able to attain a quicker aspect ratio on pedal response due to less movement needed to push the pedal forward.

Also, supercars usually have small dash consoles that would not allow for conventional pedal configurations.

there is less physical movement required of the pedal to make the same amount of cable travel becasue the pedals pivot in a smaller arc.

Also, usually the floor mounted pedals use linkage instead of just cables which tend to be multipliers of movement or for increased leverage. I remember when I did some aftermarket throttle stuff on a F430 for a customer, there was a series of about three rods that multiplied movement and decreased effort to twist the 10 ITB's open for driver comfort and drivablilty. Otherwise pushing the accellerator would be as much of a workout as pushing the clutch pedal.

interesting. thanks for the input. i never stopped to consider that the "fulcrum" was at the base of the floor mounted which would obviously be favorable than the conventional setup where the pedal may be 12" away up in the dash.

i was just visualizing it incorrectly. i asumed that there was just as much travel but thanks to your explanation it seems extremley obvious now and i feel like a douch bag for even asking in the first place

thanks again

are you being serious? i wouldnt think that the pedal weight would have that much effect on weight distribution.
