Up's and down's of B20 Vtec???
Alright guys...
Im a proud new owner of a 94' Integra LS. I bought it from a close friend just a few weeks back for 2k. It already had 15" rota slips on it with the Greddy EvoI exhaust and only 112k miles on it. So I think I got a pretty good deal for it.
Ive had just about every honda so far. Ive had a 98 coupe, a 91 crx si, a boosted 92 b16a eg hatch, a boosted b16a del sol, and now my teg. So hopefully I'll stick with this one haha.
Anyway on to business...
Im going to pull the LS out and sell it to a friend. Now I have a chance to pick up a complete b20 vtec setup. It has all new pistons, rods, rings, balanced crank etc. The b16a head has all new valves, valve springs, retainers, etc. Comes with all lines and everything needed. However it just needs to be assembled, which isnt a big deal. I can get it for a very very VERY good price. On the other hand I know from past experiances from friends, and Ive done some research on my own and b20s always seem to be a kinda "hit or miss thing" They posess a great opp. for power, but also a better chance of running into problems if done wrong (like any other motor would be) I have a GSR tranny.
My question is this. Should I go for the b20 or not? I have a spare b16 head and of course the gsr tranny. So I could just find an LS bottom end or somethign and do that. But for the price, Id hate not to pick this crazy deal up...
Any info, sugestions, or ideas are welcomed. And thanks in advanced for your help.
PS - I did search.

I like the ls/vtec myself. But it really all depends on what your future goals are.
P.S. You might not get many replys. What your asking is too broad, and there are no details to really answer your question.

Thaks. Ill be mor specific now...
I have already a b16 head complete and ready to go with a gsr tranny. All I need is a bottom end really. However its all factory and untouched. and Id spend about 300-400 on a used stock bottom end and getitng everyting set up.
Now I can get a complete b20/v for 900 that has all new rods, pistons, rings, balanced crank, etc.. with a complete b16 head with a valve job, new valves, valve springs, retainers, lines, etc.. It just need to be assembled and its brand new and ready to go.
Im looking to know what would be a better option price wise and performance wise. Its just going to be my DD. Ive had boost and it was all well and dandy, but Im looking for just something more simple to possibly run on weekend track days (not drag strip) Ive just head of bad things coming more from b20/v's and I havent had one yet. So im kindat a little cautious before i pick it up.
For the price, I dont want to pass it up. Im just looking for ppls ideas or sugestions on what they would do given the same situation.

id get it..
so the b20 bottom end is unassembled or what??
but for 900 and its got new pistons/rings/bearings and everything sounds good..as long as you can put it together correctly..
get some arp headstuds and rodbolts and you'll def be safe to 8k...
build it right and it will run just as good as any other honda motor..just dont beat on it everyday and youll be fine..
search for ls/vtec crvtec and find other things you should upgrade..like water/oil pump and ****...

its not a drawback at all..this way you can assemble the motor yourself and know its done right...
and if its got forged pistons and rods in this deal for 900 youd be passing up a good deal..even so, 900 is what ppl are paying for used honda motors...

As long as the parts are all good quality then i would jump on the deal. I have an lsvtec and love it. Back in my turbo days though i had a b20 and had a little issue with a wastegate not opening at the 8psi it should have and i spiked at 20+psi for about 3 seconds BAM!! 2 holes in the block. but until then i loved the b20.

i love my ls now thats its a lsv... and believe me when i say that people are intemidated by lsv/crv conversions... so either way you go just represent to the fullest. my .02

Thanks everyone.
I have one more question...
Seeing how the block is unassembled, this would be a perfect time to put better stronger ligher rods and different pistons in there.
Now Ive had 2 boosted cars in my past and i know id miss not having it. But Ive heard storys that boosting a stock sleeved b20 isnt the best idea. Now again Ive never had a b20 and dont know much about them.
Should I leave it alone with the new stock rods and pistons, put better rods and higher compression pistons, or should is it safe try for boost again?
It is my DD so Im not looking to go crazy with it, just something quick and fun to drive around and take on some back roads or track days.
