People with 96 ITR Wheels
was wondering how the hell do u guys keep your wheels clean??? i can't keep mine clean for the life of me, i washed my car today and there already dirty i have to keep using simple green to clean them cause they get "stained" or some **** from the brake dust, let me know your secrets.
When I had my gixxer w/the white wheels I used to keep a fresh coat of wax on them and it made them alot easier to clean. Other than those dust covers they sell I don't know what to tell you.
just your regular pads from kragen, they still did it with the pads tha came with the conversion, u think cause there is no clear coat on the rim or something? u can't even wipe it with out it smearing
damn those are clean and dirty haha, not just being 96 ITR wheels just from them being old??? my past rims were never this pain in the *** to keep clean, i would be able to wipe them down and that would be the end of it, with these i have to break out Simple Green and scotch bright or something or spunge

Areas where the paint is rough are harder to clean, I used to run the 96 ITR wheels on an old hatch, and even with the 5 lug R wheels the areas on the sides of the spokes and the recesses by the lip are rough in texture (these are re-powdercoated so its not that rough anymore).
I take the wheels off, simple green and scrub them front and back and then wax them. These are track wheels though so they're subjected to a whole lot more abuse, but theyre just about as clean as in the first pic.

Yeah, this isnt a basic white I went to the powdercoating place, we went outside in braod daylight and held each book up to the car to see what was the best match.

damn that **** looks really good, how much did that run you? damn i have to look for a powder coating place, see if they can match the CW color
Yeah. Most places can match the paint pretty good. It was $50 a wheel including full sandblast prior to paint, and the coating is really strong, much better than the paint method Honda uses.
Make sure if you do get them coated to mask off the lugnut seats and the back of the wheel where it meets to the hub, I didnt and many others will reccomend that you grind the paint off with a wirewheel etc. The paint can melt at those two surfaces from brake heat and loosen/cause the wheel to come off.

oh damn, thanks for the tips. so just put some masking tape on the inside of the lug seats? and mask off the entire backing of the rim where it meets the hub right
Thats if you powdercoat them, the powdercoating can be rather thick and at higher brake temperatures it can melt and expand, street driving its not as likely but its just somehting to keep in mind.
Yeah and even if you dont decide to paint them taking them off and scrubbing them down, then throwing a nice coat of wax on will really make a difference and make them much easier to clean.
