Well ive been into an accident... and i think i had some front end problems with my R and they said there was some motor damage that they can fix... they are not specific with me but... what do i look for in my motor when i get it back? Before i know it.... they might scam me and put a gsr motor with an engine code imprinted b18c5. How can i tell if i still have my factory LSD? someone help me out....
i think on the stock ITr tranny casing, it says J4D LSD or something like that. You'd know if its a type r motor or a GSR motor unless they put a GSR engine in it modified to fit the itr intake manifold on it.

Thats the thing... i dont think its say J4D LSD anymore... i remember seeing that... but... its gone... either they jus replaced it with a new one... or they took it.. i dunno... kinda freaks me out there.... is there a way i can tell if i still have my LSD with how the car works? Just do normal take offs and see if its good... guess thats the hard way to find out heh..
Get both of the front wheels off the ground, put the car in Neutral, and turn one of the wheels. If the one on the other side turns too, you have an LSD.
Edit: I mean turn as in spin the wheel, not turn like the steering would.

I believe they should turn the same direction with an LSD, and the difference would be if somebody went and grabbed the other wheel it wouldn't just stop.
Now I'm not so sure...
Now I'm not so sure...
Doing that won't prove a daam thing..the car has to have pressure for the lsd system to work...you can't just check it by lifting the car off the ground..regular differentals will do that.....you can drop the cluth on the street and check for even burn out marks....but or take off the axles and if you can see through the bell housing you have lsd. good luck i'm the same way with my R
let another type r owner drive your car...they could tell for sure!
Best way to do it is to look through the tranny as someone already said.
take both axles out and if you can see through the axle hole in the tranny it is lsd.if you can not see trough it, it is not
make sure the car is in gear when you have the wheels off the ground.
turn one, and the other will turn opposite direction.

Just go do a friggin burnout...if you leave 2 solid strips you have LSD, if you leave 2 strips and then one strip disappears you dont. And it's easier to do a burnout with the e-brake pulled...
That's the sure fire messy way to tell for sure.
I wonder if all those other methods with spinning the tires work? Reading burnout marks does NOT work as I have seen many 2 wheel burnouts in cars without LSD's.

What direction will the wheels turn if you DON'T have a LSD? Same direction?

I have a video clip of me launching with one wheel on dry pavement and the other wheel on loose gravel...you can hear me squawk the tires for about 10 feet, proof of LSD!
Ok, I have a question. I have a '94 GS-R (I'm the original owner) and my wheels turn the opposite direction. I remember someone saying the the '94-'95 JDM GS-R equivalent (something like VTi) came with a LSD. Could it be possible that I have a LSD?

Um... I have a '00 GSR, and I've peeled out for 20+ feet with the e-brake on... (It was for films sake) At anyrate, I left 2 very equal tread marks...

the easiest way that i can think of is if you just go ahead and paint a spot on the transmission casing.put it in an unusual place where they will not notice it i.e. in the back.

in gear or not. With a clutch type lsd, it will turn in the same direction.
if the car is in gear you would be trying to turn the engine along with the wheels.
I have a JDM Si (GSR) and my car came with factory LSD, when the car is jacked up and you turn one wheel the other wheel turns the same direction too, on a car (my last teg) without LSD one wheel turned the other didnt
